Welcome in!

Location: The Warners' house
Mike’s parents are, obviously, extremely Father Knows Best/Donna Reed Show 1950s parents, down to Harriet Warner having, like, Sally Brown from Peanuts hair. (Also, her name is Harriet.) George Warner carries a newspaper and a pipe! Though I think at some point between then and now argyle sweaters came back into style.
mike, no
Argyle sweaters have not come back into style.
How do I know this, you might ask?
My middle sister, the most unstylish woman I know, owns several. Checkmate, commentary.
Argyle has actually been trying to make a comeback for the last year or so. It’s leaning away from the traditional preppy color schemes of yesteryear, but absolutely is the argyle patterning. Like so many things in 2020, that has at least partially been stymied by the pandemic.
Also, while smoking has been declining the last decade or so due to it’s replacement by vaping, pipes have been coming back into vogue among smokers over that same period.
I can corroberate this: I own one. I don’t wear it very often, because ties are too much of a faff to wear if I’m not going to work (but apparently not too much of a faff for me to wear them to work even though I don’t have to, because that’s how I feel like I’m a real office worker). And V-neck sweaters don’t look right without the tie.
Okay, the sheer positivity of Mike’s dad going “Atta boy!” still gets me all these years later.
And this is where the Fanon of Mike being an asshole but helpful came from.
The idea he’s the opposite of his family.
At some point, Amber needs to ask to see the time machine that brought the Warners to the present day from the 1950s!
Mike clearly didn’t inherit his perpetual scowl from his parents. Unless you only get that scowl if both your parents are carriers of the gene or something.
Maybe it skips a generation.
i mean the sweater’s kind of gay. in that i want it. and i’m a lesbian. that’s how it works right?
“Oh George, we have company!”
(I know that was Gracie Allen, not Harriet Nelson.)
Study question: Beyond what age can Mike dislike Harriet saying “My little man‘s found someone”?
I think Mike passed that age awhile ago.
I still put this in my top 5 Walkyverse favorite punchlines
