I’m pretty sure that Sal does recognize her, but doesn’t want her to know that because then she’ll pepper her with questions about her mysterious origin. She may not make the connection that Joyce was Danny’s stalker until later, though.
Being that Sal met Joyce when she was in full on stalker mode in the bonus story, and was the one who brought her to SEMME in the first place I’d say there’s no chance she isn’t fully aware who Joyce is.
There’s just no need to bring it up, and having discussions about people’s identity usually isn’t something you do right after someone runs into you at high speed.
I figure Sal never bothered to remember Joyce because she was so sure she wasn’t any competition. Kind of like how Lex Luthor never recognises Clark Kent is Superman, he has such a low opinion of Clark he just cannot make the connection.
“Sakes alive” is one of those things that old Southern black lady stereotypes say that I’m not sure I’ve ever heard an actual person say despite having lived for years in the South. Having it come out of teenage Sal’s mouth is definitely weird.
I’m not sure that “what in heavens” is even a thing that stereotypes say. I’ve heard “what in heaven’s name”, but even that’s really weird coming from someone Sal’s age. If she can’t bring herself to say (or her creator can’t bring himself to write) “hell”, I’d at least expect “What the heck?”
It’s kind of funny that this is the same girl (modulo some Martian DNA) who yelled “FUCK” 76 times in one panel over in DoA.
So did Sal just not feel Joyce run into her despite seeing her running towards her? Wait is Sal’s power Super Stregnth? It’s been awhile since I read It’s Walky.
Super strength or not, shouldn’t conservation of momentum still apply? Sal’s already leaning back in panel two, with her presumed center of mass way behind her feet, then is hit by a (fast-?)running Joyce.
Super-strength or not, she should have fallen over backwards unless … — Well I dare not suggest Sal to be super-massive, so the only option left would be Joyce to be super-lightweight. Or Sal was just way quicker than Joyce at standing up again.
Well, what’s Sal’s excuse for not recognizing her?

Mind wipes are a yay for Joyce, sure, but Sal remembers their last encounter by now, right?
Well there’s a twist way later on so maybe not?
Who the hell runs while looking over their shoulder?
…. No one.
People who are looking to see if they’re being chased.
Lots of children do it when they’re trying to go somewhere quickly, but are trying to listen to the person following behind them
Joyce?
I guess you could call this a WHAM episode.
Sakes alive?!?! What a wierd swear.
I love that there are so many inexplicable things about the strip that someone only just noticed that.
I’m sure I’ve heard that uttered somewhere. Not sure where exactly, but it sounds familiar.
It is very old. More common Pre-WWII I think. I have also heard “lands sake”, which I am guessing is a corruption of “Lord’s sake”.

I’ma choose to interpret that Sal used Joyce’s momentum to toss Joyce past her.
