Robo-Vac is my Bible
on February 11, 2019 at 1:01 amChapter: Consummation
Characters: Andy O'Brien, Bryan Nowak, Daisy Conrad, Jim Carrington, Joe Rosenthal, Mandy Kowalski, Rachel Jackson, Rachel Moore, Robin DeSanto
Location: pharmacy parking lot, SEMME Complex
Top: welp joe is into the same nerdy crap as rachel i guess that sexual harassment at the grocery store is forgiven
Bottom: Robin appears! This is the first hint that the Apocalypse Vision Strips aren’t taking place at the exactly same time as the regular strips. I have no idea who that guy carrying the blasphemously right-side-up SEMME crate is, but Other Rachel is here and they don’t have a vest, so I’m assuming it’s O’Brien.
Robo-Vac fixes everything!
I guess?
Rachel’s face in panel 3 is wonderful.
that’s true nerd smugness shining through, you can’t fake that smartass doubting face no matter how hard you try 😉
The Clone Saga must be a litmus test for her. Not sure what another real world sci fi equivalent would be.
Well, on the one hand, after yesterday Joe’s now got first-hand experience of what sexual harassment feels like.
When I originally read this, I just figured she was using her super speed to effectively be in two places at once.
Same, was that not the punchline?
In that case though, she would have had to go past whatever is happening outside.
If it were anyone but Robin, it would be a less confusing hint. I find it entirely plausible that “strategic withdrawal” meant “taking a few seconds to run back to SEMMF HQ between panels”.
I admit that’s actually what I thought was going on when I first read this strip.
I somehow missed that Robin was in both the top and bottom comics here the previous times I read this story arc, but I did think they were happening at the same time until this latest read-through. And with Robin’s super speed it would definitely be possible for her to be running back and forth between locations.
Yeah, this. I never considered it weird for Robin to be back at SEMME in a split second because it was her.
This just confused me tbh.
I don’t see how Robin’s plan actually worked, other than a non sequitur segue into geek talk.
To be fair to Rachel, I don’t think most people were aware enough back then to consider what Joe did to be sexual harassment. Many would have said something along the lines of “he stopped when she said ‘no’, he didn’t do anything wrong”, while others wouldn’t even have given it that much thought.
“my work complete” = finding a flimsy excuse to grope Joe’s schlong
I remember when I first read through this, even here I didn’t realize the Apocalypse Vision bottom section wasn’t happening at the same time as the top section. I just figured Robin was simultaneously being part of separate story threads as a joke, because super speed.
Not gonna lie, when I first read this years ago, I thought this confirmed that those scenes were happening at the same time because Robin left the Joe situation and super-zoomed her way back to the main action. 😐 Whoops!
I thought the same!
