Well to be fair to Joe, the context of the Three Rules was that Billie had been asking Danny if he wanted to bang her, and as a rule of thumb people don’t generally go up to others while unconscious (the ask-er being unconscious, not the ask-ee) and say they want to bang them.
Also, this is my first comment on either site (though I’ve been reading for years), so…hi?
I… what. That’s… like the bare minimum of consent and leaves out some major instances, including allowing for coercive or manipulative undermining of consent.
I think in the situation of the other person wanting/imitating sex, it’s a good rule set. I’m unclear if that’s Joe’s code for sexy times in general or if the woman is initiating. In the case of the former, yes, it is lacking
– Is she unconscious?
– Is she acting strangely in ways that may suggest something may not be entirely right with her, even if she isn’t crying? People having breakdowns and otherwise acting irrationally out of emotion can be taken advantage of too.
I’m reminded of that one Friends episode where Rachel comes onto Ross after her dad had a heart attack, and he turns her down, and the next day goes, ‘You were sad, I was being a good guy.’ and she goes, ‘If you’d just said yes, I’d have felt satisfied this morning instead of mortified.’.
And then I got reminded of when Billie threw herself at Danny in DoA.
She’s passing his three tests, but she’s still acting wildly out-of-normal for Joyce. So I don’t know, it’s consent but it’s still probably not a good idea anyway, I guess?
kinda weird that everyone is talking about joe’s ideas about consent and not joyce’s? since he keeps telling her no, and she just used her abductee super-strength to force him to kiss her?
Are you implying it’s the female’s concern to worry about male consent? That’s ridiculous! Men can’t be taken advantage of! He said, sarcastically disagreeing with the conventions of a society that chooses to see men as sex obsessed and incapable of being taken advantage of due to the idea that they’re intrinsically physically and mentally more powerful.
he needs a fourth rule, “Was she unconscious?” (which she would also pass)
though he could literally put money in her mouth and run, too

Also, nice! Sal gravatar!
…though considering what road Sal is walking down in this comic…uh, ack, Sal gravatar?
Hey remember when folks in places used those three rules to hold up Joe as a paragon of consent
Fun times, fun times

He needs rules 4 and 5
– Is she unconscious?
– Is she acting strangely in ways that may suggest something may not be entirely right with her, even if she isn’t crying? People having breakdowns and otherwise acting irrationally out of emotion can be taken advantage of too.
In absolute fairness, Joe knew Billie was conscious (or else a really bizarre sleepwalker), so there wasn’t a reason to ask Danny about #4.

I do you the great service of telling you about irony punctuation⸮ A powerful and simple method of being ironic on the internet!
No Joyce! The moral of Grease is not what you should be aspiring to!
She was crying just a very short while ago though…
“currently”
“your money” ? Is that how you kids call it these days ?
i don’t understand how making out in the cold rain is sexy.
See see I’m not the only one.
Maybe it is a warm rain?
Urgency!
