I like this one a lot. You know, if we ignore for a moment that Quake II is strictly first-person, from my recollection, and so you can’t turn to point the gun around in the direction of the screen.
Sounds like something a SEMME agent would say. He can’t say he’s from a secret extraterrestrial monitoring agency because then it wouldn’t be a secret.
‘Secret extraterrestrial monitoring’ agency, eh? If I wasn’t pretty sure that SEMME doesn’t actually stand for anything, I’d say you were onto something.
I don’t recall if I ever actually played Quake 2, but in Doom, at least, the BFG had a weird line-of-sight-based area effect, so you could kill things with it that it wasn’t actually pointed anywhere near. On the other hand, firing it into a room and ducking back behind the doorframe before it went off made it practically useless.
And you made me fire up dosbox to refresh my memory of how it works, and now I’ve spent the last hour hosing hapless demons down with the thermonuclear firehose.
hey, no one said he was a good aim
ahahahaha
“I am Government Man, come from the Government! The Government has sent me!”

Secret Extraterrestrial Monitoring and Murdering Force?
In order to be thorough, shouldn’t it be something like “Secret Extraterrestrial and Monkey Monitoring Enterprise”?
Ape.
Remember, you don’t call the Librarian a monkey either.
It’s “Monkey”, ‘cos they’re trash-talking.
“I’m a Federal Agent” works well for these sorts of situations.
FBI? ATF? Secret Service? IRS? It really doesn’t matter, it’s all bad news.
AND THE HEAT GOES ON
AND THE HEAT GOES ON
Also, isn’t the BFG a Doom thing?
Must be some kind of mod.
Doom and Quake are made by the same company, and share quite a bit in common, including arsenals.

I always thought the Big Friendly Giant was a Dahl thing.
The marketing for Big Friendly Giant always cracked me up because all I could see on this children’s movie poster was “big fucking gun.”
I think Quake and Doom take place in the same universe.
All I know is there is a BFG 9000 in Quake 3
Quake II had the BFG 10K.

I played neither! But I looked it up and Quake 2’s BFG works the same as Doom’s line-of-sight-based BFG.
On the bright side, you can 1 hit kill the final boss at point blank range. Cyberdemon only takes two shots at decent range.
Oh my Quake, we had it on my High School, memories T.T
Your gun is the government?
… that would explain a lot, actually
