I dunno. I mean, if Mike was still Walky’s roommate, I’m not sure his advice in today’s strip would be “put your comic on Twitter, and also think about your diet”. It would be more like “Your comic sucks, and also I banged your mom for a nickel.”
I think Mike was a far more interesting and enjoyable character in this universe than in DoA. Definitely sad that we probably won’t see any new Mike content.
Yeah, Shortpacked Mike was in a universe that could handle his absurdity with a partner who could give as good as she got in the asshole department, and that let him show his human side more often. Dumbingverse Mike’s spent years needling at Ethan and Amber, and they weren’t as psychologically hardy when he started (since, y’know, they were all kids) as they were in Shortpacked. Add Amber’s issues in particular becoming dramatically worse, and Ethan having a lot more angst about his sexuality, and… well, even when Mike was showing some signs of being more than just a force of assholedom, that makes the damage he’s done to them all the worse because he IS human and was doing so, as he admitted in that last fight scene, because he enjoyed setting Amber’s issues off.
I miss Shortpacked Mike, but I’ve been missing him for a long time before Dumbingverse Mike died, because I couldn’t see him ever reaching the point he did here.
Joyce invited Ethan to her little party in the dorm lobby (but also second guessed whether it was a good idea to), so Ethan’s still around, he just appears to be avoiding the main cast, likely for Mike related reasons. My guess is he’ll pop up after a couple years in our time for a big story, kind of the way Becky originally did, though I don’t expect him to eventually have as large of a role as Becky does. Ethan in DoA comes across to me as a character Willis has struggled a bit to redefine outside of the context of voicing his toy/Fandom opinions and criticisms, but the Aftermath of the Mike situation kinda demands revisiting him eventually, and seems like the perfect opportunity to find a new niche for him. We’ll see, but the fact that Ethan still occasionally still pops up in conversation in DoA seems like a good sign that he’s not gone forever
I’m hoping he pops just because, well… we don’t really have much M/M representation in DoA at the moment. Danny’s bi and that’s important, but he’s also currently (kinda) dating Sal.
DoA is very focused on the women, and that’s fine, but Ethan’s the only male cast member of the Willisverse over the years that’s really dated another man.
Amber’s wedding look really is gorgeous.
It’s just what she wears to eat sandwiches
A good Reuben merits dressing up for the occasion. Though white was a bad choice, that thousand island dressing can stain.
I just want to share that I had an excellent Reuben the other day.
It was just really good (I’m pretty sure the deli made their own corned beef!) and it felt right to share it here.
As you should!
Weddings, birthdays, graduations, a good Reuben, these are the red letter days that merit congratulations!
If only there was such a thing, the sheer uniqueness of it may very well warrant fancy dress for its consumption.
But alas, it is an impossibility.
Very much agreed, Regalli.
Also agreed.
This just makes me sad that we’re not likely to get Mike content of any kind again.
I’d be a lot sadder if Booster wasn’t around to provide a very similar energy.

Is this the first mention of Ethan in…. months? In any Willis work?
I think he’s just sorta gone for the current season of DoA.
Likely transferred to another school (or taking a semester off?) after the season finale.
He’ll cameo eventually.
Walky’s confirmed he’s around, but has apparently gone all “Emo Peter Parker in the first Spider-Man 3”. In Walky’s words.

Those sandwiches better be fancy
Hopefully they’re from a good local place, not Sooubway.
They are “(And Subs)”.
Ethan hates tomatoes? He must really hate that scene in the Return of the King film.
