I’m pretty sure I knew the names of most of my fellow classmates in my grade in high school, because I went to middle school with most of them as well. The few I didn’t know by high school were ones who had recently moved there from somewhere else.
I grew up in the military, so we moved a lot. I probably averaged 3 years per school. Would spend about a year learning who everybody was, start making good friends, then move again. The only good part was that there were always some other kids from previous schools, so you would usually know somebody when you moved, unless it was a civilian school.
I think I tried this exact thing once
too bad my crush missed that year and/or looked ABSOLUTELY NOTHING like their photo (multiple X-TREEM makeovers in HS)
In today’s day and age he would have just looked it up on Facebook.

What’s going on?
[_] It’s annoying or not interesting
[X] I’m in this photo and I don’t like it

Everyone in my high school were people I had gone to school with since kindergarten. The pleasures (?!) of living in a very small town.
Our high school was (technically still is) K through 12*, so they actually had a “12 year club” of the kids who were there all 12 years*
Also it’s part of the college campus, so some of THEM also went to the college
Yay never leaving home
*The K came a bit after I started, so I’m sure there’s a 13 year club now

I’m glad to see little changes in Walky’s approach to women he finds attractive through his lifetime!
I do kinda love that he’s just… narrating to Joyce, in detail, about his boyhood crush on this other girl.
Then again he met her college stalkee so I guess fair’s fair–
