I’d never get bored!
on May 17, 2021 at 12:01 amCharacters: Dave Rees, David Walkerton, Doritos, Head Alien II, Joe Ranksman, Joyce Brown, Machete, Ultra Car
Location: power plant, who knows where
Head Alien II was inadvertently given everything he ever wanted, and then those two schmucks Joyce and Walky took it away! No wonder he’s so pissy.
Panel one shows us a more “classic” (well, elementary school) Tarantugun, while panel two shows us a dead Walkerton (and some Dorrrrrrrrrritos) from the Klik & Play computer games universe. And those are probably Alan’s legs. He was important back then. And named Dave.
Dorrrrrrrrrritos seems like the worst brand name, bc it’s super easy to lose count of how many Rs and even one off would mean it’s not the trademarked version
Do®®®®®®®®®®itos?
Shocker: Unscrambling atoms makes you no longer transient in transit.
Now shock Machete back!
Something about this feels like in the Spider-Verse comic when the bad guy killed Hostess Fruit Pie ad Spider-Man.
I had to read this comment three times before I fully comprehended what was being said.
Touché, Spider Verse. Touché.
On the one hand– Ultra Car, no!
On the other hand, if Dumbiverse Carla got disemboweled and was about to die, I could totally see her last act being strangling the killer to death with her own intestines, it’s kinda metal
Or strangling Mary because why not
…when did I become the buckets of blood guy
You’re assuming it wasn’t Mary that murdered her.
Somehow the demise of the terrible sentient car is more gut-wrenching than the murders of various human characters. It’s weird how that works in fiction.
So is the Klik & Play-verse Walky canonically dead, then?
I mean, technically he died all the time, if you were not 100% perfect at playing the game.
Really wish I could get some of those old Klik & Play games up and running on my computer. Only one I’ve managed to get working so far is Ultra Car.
You just have to get his blood on your hands, don’t you…
Do they run under Windows 3.1? If they do, you might be able to get them going in DOSBox. (Modern 64-bit Windows dropped backward-compatibility for old 16 bit applications.)
From process of elimination, that’d be Joe Ranksman’s skeleton in panel one?
Also I know it’s the done thing but man, tagging Ultra Car’s guts. Grim.
Somehow I find the thought of Ultra Car being destroyed far more distressing than anything else on this page.
I wonder if whatever they are going to do to HA2 here is going to completely erase him from causality and that’s how a sci-fi-free universe like DOA’s came to be.
Didn’t we see Head Alien II’s ultimate fate in Shortpacked!? Though IIRC Willis has implied that that arc will be the other arc from there to make it into these reruns (the first having been the Honey Bun In New York arc).
Keeping this as spoiler-free as I can for new readers (which I am, for the most part): That arc takes place before this for Heady II, and after Joyce and Walky for everyone else involved.
And oh Cheese am I ever looking forward to the commentary on that arc. It just might be my favorite storyline that Willis has ever written/drawn, though between that, basically the entire finale of It’s Walky, “It’s Bean Real,” “When Somebody Loved Me,” “To Those Who’d Ground Me,” basically the entire tenth book of Dumbing of Age, and “The Last Roomies Story Ever, I Promise,” there’s some stiff competition.
There’s also a place in my heart for “
Agh, comment cut off.
There’s also a place in my heart for “The Best I Could Do,” but it’s a little bit too sad for me to put it in “favorite” territory.
I’m assuming HAII must have met other universe versions of himself at least a few times. I wonder if he teamed up with any of those versions of himself, or fought and killed them.
It’s probably more like “how long did he string them along pretending to team up before he killed them?”
There is no I in team. Which is Head Alien’s primary objection to them.
I could see him doing that, proving he was the Superior H.A
This old image seems to more or less correspond to the universe seen in Panel 2.
Walky’s upturned nose shape places it a little later, chronologically, though! He had that nose during the K&P games.
