I always found it amusing that in this world Ethan’s sexual preference was an open in-joke, so Leslie’s comment entirely failed to be a revelation. It completely takes the wind out of her attempt to startle him.
See, I read that line as ‘keep off my wife.’ ‘I’m pretty sure (getting on Amber, or however you put it in this rhetorical sense) is your job (as husband, because clearly we’re sexually active hahahaha help please.’
So, yeah, since people were wondering yesterday, some key implied Drama Tag powers: It stagnates, specifically. It can’t retroactively remove, for instance, the fact that your dad was abusive, but it CAN mean your abusive dad DIDN’T drop dead of a heart attack about a year ago. It doesn’t make Ethan less gay, but because Ethan coming out would be a change to the status quo, he can’t. Blaine showing up immediately after Robin pulled the tag wasn’t because pulling it conjured him back into being or something – at most, he was being kept out of the store by some kind of Drama Tag Force, but even then I think it was mostly bad timing that he showed up RIGHT then. (While we’re not entirely sure where he lived the last few years of his life and he left kids ‘all along the West Coast’ or something like that, the fact that Shortpacked could successfully keep him away from Amber and Faz didn’t manage to seek him out suggests he wasn’t living that close to the store. Maybe he’d been lurking for a few weeks but kept getting waylaid by banana peels before the tag was pulled, I guess.)
However, THIS one was never pulled. Second point: the Drama Tag’s powers grow the longer it’s in place. So does its influence, as reflected in the different color scheme… and some things to come.
“What’s important is that we don’t talk about this any more.”
That… sounds like the sort of thing that probably gets said a lot in fundamentalist communities. Which isn’t directly what the situation of the NoRobinverse is, but after reading DoA and reading some of the comments on Joyce strips it’s not hard to see the similarities. No serious emotions allowed sounds… very much like the sort of idea that results in Becky’s desperate attempts to hide behind a smile.
There were a lot of things about Book of Mormon I didn’t particularly care for, but it did nail that repression in song form. ‘When you start to get confused about thoughts in your head/Don’t feel those feelings! Hold them in instead!’
I’ve seen a few names proposed for this reality, since I don’t think it ever got one officially. Off the top of my head, I’ve seen people call it Heyoverse, Comedyverse, NoDramaverse, NoRobinverse, or Pamelaverse. I’m partial to “NoRobinverse,” personally.
Good thing they ain’t doin’ it, or Ethan would be a pretty bad dad
with all his DAD JOKES
THAT AREN’T EVEN DAD JOKES

I’ve been assuming Amber’s line in the last panel makes it pretty clear that they haven’t been having sex because Ethan’s attracted to men, not women.
Same. Keeping off his wife is his job. Because it’s what he does.
Yeah, Amber’s reaction in panel 2 is more “gasp, you said it out loud” than genuine shock.
If anyone demonstrates any drama, the Chrabs come and eat them.
