Destroy Denver
on September 18, 2015 at 12:01 amChapter: Monkey Master
Characters: Anthony McHenry, David Walkerton, Head Alien, Jason Chesterfield, Joyce Brown, Mike Warner, Monkey Master, Sal Walters
Location: SEMME Complex
You know, if SEMME agents carry around explosive devices that can blow up Monkey Master, maybe they should consider equipping their shuttlecraft launchers with them so they don’t gotta put themselves in self-sacrificial cliffhangers!
Sacrificing Everyone, Monkey Master Eliminated…?
Woah, replace Monkey Master with Martian Menace, and I think we have ourselves the actual meaning behind SEMME.
Now… now we’re getting somewhere.
Headcanon ACCEPTED
…Huh. Well played.
… Unnecessary sacrifice AND it fits. FANTASTIC! You my dear Metagross are king of the day!
They’re on his arm? Wouldn’t Monkey Master be able to get them to fall off just by shaking it a bit?
Squad 128 isn’t expendable. That’s the other agents from the other squads job.
I’m assuming Jason brought that with him from his previous job.
And, I mean, I guess I can see why they might not want Denver destroyed, but why Is it important that no one knows about the Aliens, anyway?
Joyce’s old roommate will reappear for vengeance, and nobody wants that.
Is it a coincidence that the characters staying behind to be the self-sacrificing heroes are all the guys, while the girls fly away?
That’s Jason’s idea, so probably not.
I don’t recall what happens next, but if Jason is responding “Do what you can” to Joyce’s concerns about Big Boss, then it seems likely Joyce and Sal are being sent down to bust him out of tummy prison.
Since one of them has a massive laser cannon and the other is Sal, they seem like the best choices for a prison break.
Still, they do have a quick and safe means of escape, whereas the boys have the choice between falling to their deaths (okay, falling to Jason’s death, at least) or getting blown up.
Oh yeah that makes sense.
OK so the next few parts of this arc I find to be a little bit over dramatic.
They involve Head Alien. I’d be disappointed if they were under dramatic.
Even the right level of dramatic is too little when Head Alien is involved.
I mean, slap that thing onto a launcher and just shoot and run.
Better yet, just leave it in the TUMMY PRISON right after you get Big Boss out. It’s not like MM could fish it out!
I’ve been wondering — is there a specific reason why SEMME are headquartered in Denver?
Those SGC guys got to Cheyenne Mountain first?
uh, but he could just stay alone up there ? Or since there’s a timer, just a few seconds before it explodes at least ? 😐
-just+jump
Yes, hitting the timer and jumping seems like the logical thing to do…so…this is Semme remember?
As far as not wanting Denver to know about the aliens, there appears to be some people around who thinks the Govt. has been hiding aliens since the 1940s. Or before.
Walky, slap the mini-nuke out of Jason’s hand and then slap him upside of the head for thinking like an idiot.
For some reason I started imagining Monkey Master throwing exploding poo…
Ok, now that we’re here… I never did understand what’s going on in this storyline from this strip on. Everyone’s reactions seem pretty strange, it feels as if there’s something I’m missing from it. Or maybe I just need to sleep and re-read it when I’m well rested (sure, as if that would ever happen).
Jason’s reaction does seem a little extreme. I mean, at this point they’re right next to a crashed Head Alien arguing with an only-vaguely-loyal giant mecha subordinate, giving him orders he has no real means (nor even clear intention) of following effectively? Is Jason having this reaction because “oh no, if humans find out about aliens at large all is lost”? If so… why? And I mean, these battles haven’t been terribly subtle, it’s bound to leak sooner or later.
And there’s also the issue of explosive application as mentioned in the commentary.
And the issue of how Joyce seems fairly confused but is still inferring orders without being sure what she’s supposed to do.
And what the plan is for the three of them up there.
My conclusion is, I don’t think Squad 128 has this whole “intelligent decisions and good communication/teamwork” thing sorted out.
Also, I like how both Monkey Master and Sa seem to have “What? Seriously?” kinds of expressions going on here.
Hey, belittling comic logic is our job!
I! I COULD BE KING
AND YOU! YOU COULD BE QUEEN
OH, WE COULD BE HEROES! JUST FOR ONE DAY!
So, uh is there any actual reason why they’re so determined to keep the existence of aliens secret, specifically, why they are willing to SACRIFICE THEMSELVES just to maintain the coverup?
Because the alternative is everyone in Denver dies?
