What a stupid fool I was.
No, not the whole “climate change is a conspiracy by the government” angle, it’s the hitting on Daphne instead of fuckin’ Velma.
COME ON WILLIS
Ah, the mistakes of youth.
Where ELSE is Bob Denver gonna pee, tho?? Everything on an island eventually goes back to the ocean…
Yeah Velma was better ‘n Daphne, but I dunno. As far as classic cartoons go, I always sorta preferred Harley Quinn ‘n Batgirl.
I always liked Ivy more than Harley. Redheads are sexy, and Harley had that voice. It was cute in small doses, but imagine the noises she’d make in bed. Better seduce her wearing earplugs.
Harley’s a redhead too, she just dyes it blonde.
That was just a voice she adopted as part of her persona though.
Oh gods, I’m old enough that B:TAS is considered ‘classic’ now.
If any of you kids are old enough to know how to use a gun, shoot me now.
You think that’s bad? For most of my life, Adam West was the only “Batman”…
Lies! There was Lewis Wilson!
I agree, Velma is much sexier.
VELMA! VELMA! VELMA! HOT-TIEZ!
You were but a babe in the woods, David, who did not yet know the Book of Mystery Inc. and its many and vast truths of the universe.
Just wave it all off on the grounds that this is clearly SUPPOSED to be misguided and insane.
Wait, how was this about Global Warming?
Isn’t it more like the government masquerading as a scary enviro…….. Oh.
Still, jokes aside it could be about any green agenda.
Also the one writing it in universe is on narcs so you could argue that it’s making fun of such conspiracies.
*shakes his head* Both Velma and Daphene are viable choices from the right perspective.
The perspective where Daphne is secretly a second Velma in a clever disguise?
This feels like it is a reference to Cerebus the Aardvark.
That was my first reaction* too, but Sims is hardly the only cartoonist to lose it in the middle of a series and go completely batshit.
*Well, okay, my first reaction today, I hadn’t read Cerebus when I found Roomies!.
In fairness, Daphne seems to me more like what Joe would go after first.
Why choose?
I had no idea that was the subtext! I thought this was just being weird for weirdness’ sake.
I just realized – I did a similar “Scooby-Doo” reference later that very same year! Which can only mean one thing:
Great Minds Think Alike!
Eh? Eh?
*crickets*
“Fools seldom differ.” 😉
This might be the greatest page of insanity ever. It’s just fantastic.
this is basically what hanging out with you was like back in the day, yeah.
Nuns arm-wrestling Liberty… that would’ve been good to see.
Dude I know, right? who cares about Daphne?
Captain Planet always struck me as a demon, y’know? He’s a metaphysical entity who’s summoned using rings (I.E. the Seal of Solomon) representing the five classical elements (I.E. the five points of the pentagram, symbol of Satan, which is also used as a circle for summoning demons) and also “heart” (I.E. blood sacrifice) and… oh wow, I am put way too much thought into this.
Pagan, definitely. Which isn’t surprising, considering he was created by Gaea.
I wouldn’t say it crosses over into satanism/demonology except if you’re the sort who automatically conflates the two.
Well, Heart also works because some schemes treat Soul or Spirit as a Fifth element, or something that’s not one of the elements, but similarly crucial.
