On my b-day!!! So this is what was going on while I was turning……… oh, 22. Never mind. First read the date and thought it was my 21st. But of course I’m a girl and we can’t do math anyway ;D
Very suspicious that Alan would know this code, that it would work with his voice, and that the Cheese even had this ability. After all, he’s not a robot, so why have something like this?
If I recall correctly, this was explained in the highly acclaimed spinoff series, “It’s The Cheese!”, a Sandman-like meditation on mortality, humanity, and the nature of choice that was eventually turned into an award-winning HBO miniseries. Unfortunately, “It’s The Cheese!” was completely wiped from our timeline due to the wacky shenanigans of a group of time travelers, so we may never know the true significance of this strip.
I’ve heard it rumoured that the last known copies of “It’s The Cheese!” actually faked their deaths and moved to Acapulco to maintain the timeline, however.
From what I found with a quick trip to Wikiville, the choregus was the rich Athenian who paid for the parts of a play that the city didn’t, such as the chorus.
And since I think this is what people are doing, here’s my results for related comics:
This is a sudden visit, Walky
Walkerton!
Just… wow
BOOF!
BOOF!
Obviously because all of the ones working for Dexter are the ones who’re dumb enough to work for Dexter. Maybe there were a bunch of smart ones like Alan, but they left and went into hiding or something like that. 😛
*squints* This looks like a mysterious agenda.
Alan is working for the Cheese or what?
This is explained … never, I think.
Alan is basically Dumbledore. Or I guess Dumbledore is basically Alan.
Dumblealan is basically Dore?
OMG
Just stop talking, okay?
Sal…. sis.
You know Joyce?
Keep in mind that they’re giving Joyce sex-related objects
I can’t believe it.
Remember, Big Boss wants him alive.
How’d you get here so fast?
You boys go in and greet your father.
Jared’s Subway Diet
Set the bomb
I can’t find the start button
Bleagh
What’s that?
Six months later:
Awake again

Of course, Tony has a gaping hole in his chest, but nobody gives him a ride to the hospital. He just has to hold it in with his bare hands.
Eh, he’s been through worse.

A “choregos” was, in Greek society, a financier for theatrical productions. Not sure what relevance it has here.
deus ex machina?
I get the feeling that you didn’t really entirely know what the Cheese was at this point…
OHMANOHMANWHATHAPPENEDWHEREAREWE?
You get right down from there this instant!
That’s right, shorty.
SPOOM!
I’m involved now.
It’s my mom’s birthday
G’morning!
She’d never act like YOU
Jason told me what REALLY happened!
Dress for tropics
I’m not entirely sure if it’s ever explained in later comics how and why Alan knows this code, but I don’t believe so.

This was beautiful.

Choregus: the leader of the choir?
Choregus meant the sponsor of a dramatic production, back when those all had choruses. Someone who puts on a show, is my take.

Why is Alan more intelligent than the other aliens, excluding Dexter?
because he has a name 😛
So do Fred and Stan, and they’re dumb as hell.
If you were a smart alien, wouldn’t you ditch HA too?

So Alan is the Cheese?
