And me.
on October 1, 2021 at 12:01 amSpeaking of characters who became Real Characters since Dumbing of Age made them Real Characters, here’s Dorothy! I don’t remember if I had an original plan for her before she became Real, but somewhere along the way, after I began to figure her college-aged version out, I decided what would make a superpowered Dorothy happy would be going back with Machete to the future to help make the world a better place. She wouldn’t be President, but maybe she could be, y’know, important regardless. She just needed a change of scenery!
Joyce winks at the reader a bit with “I wish things could have been different.”
i just fucking noticed all the costume changes. even with the “later” caption on the previous page i always passively assumed this was all still the wedding
“Sure I won’t really know anybody there, or at least not at their current ages, but AT LEAST I WON’T HAVE A SAME-AGE EX AWKWARDLY STILL EXISTING TO TEMPT ME”
How many people does Dorothy know here, and how many of those watched an evil alien piloting her body crash their wedding?
weird synchronicity between this and today’s dumbing of age huh
I came here straight from DoA. I think my brain has whiplash.
Can’t say I saw this plot turn coming!
Judging by how much nicer Joyce is to her here, I’m guessing that during the process of returning all those kids to their home universes Machete must have explained to everyone how Head Alien II destroyed Dorothy’s entire life (ie killing her parents). There really isn’t much of anything left for her here, in a real sense. And I suppose having Dorothy leave this continuity forever with Joyce and Walky’s kid from the future is the perfect way to tease both the Doroyce and Dorky crowds at once, really.
Now I’m kinda hoping that Machete is from the canon future, since otherwise there’s no way this Dorothy will ever return at all. Not that there’s much of this universe returning in general, but still
I’m flabberghasted by how much I don’t have this memorized. I used to have the ‘theend’ page bookmarked, and would check it periodically and I had everything up to ‘we need to send these kids home’ memorized due to scanning it so often, but I feel like I’ve never seen these latest pages.
Apparently there was a gap of like two and a half years between that page and the one after it.
This stuff was post-end of Shortpacked.
And if Heady I comes back, he could actually be useful against the Martians.
Makes me wonder if Willis will do a Martians Return series or if that’s a pipe dream.
Hmmm. We know from that one strip in Shortpacked that Amber and her grown up kids are live. And that the Soggies win and have a thriving benevolent dictatorship as there is a statue of a Soggie in the background and we don’t create statues of evil losers. Except in the South.
Or he was a heroic traitor who betrayed his own kind to save humanity! In a dramatic 4 part saga!
Anyway: either the Martians haven’t show up by that point, or at least Amber survives the war. Or they are benevolent overlords.
…
….
WAT?!
….
(seriously though, what statue?)
Here you go: https://www.shortpacked.com/comic/triplets
(Although Endplanets got it wrong: it’s not Amber we see in this future.)
I’m definitely still kinda curious how that future came about, especially with that statue and stuff.
AH.
I only looked at the April Fools comics.
@Keulen
We know that Head Alien I’s body is on display in the Smithsonian, so I’m personally going with that Sogmaster statue also being his actual body on display after his defeat.
And then she marries Machete.
That would be one HELL of a chat
well that does seem to be what one of the next strips is hinting at
HA!
I thought the same thing. 😛
That would be kinda sick, but in a way that might be fun lol.
She can’t resist those big, blue eyes.
I have never seen this page before.
It’s certainly a much better end for Dorothy than just leaving her unconscious while Machete quasi-eulogizes about what she didn’t deserve and “second chances.”
In fact, it’s almost the best ending she could get: going off into her own (unwritten) epic story and no longer hanging around Walky’s. Still leaves the Head Alien’s continued existence in Dotty’s head a little more ambiguous than I’d like, especially since nothing about this version of her indicates she’d be strong enough to expel him. But we can’t have everything.
