It’s not like the person who died was anyone important, like Danny, or, uh, Danny. I mean, yeah, she was Billie’s lover and only friend, but it’s not like she was Danny, so it’s totally reasonable that Billie’s fine with it, since Danny’s still okay. And she died to correct Danny’s mis-step off his paragon path of perfect virtue, which is totally worth a life that isn’t Danny’s!
There’s actually nothing to suggest Billie’s fine with it; she’s in one panel with a blank expression. It’s everyone else who’s smirking in the last panel, and to do them justice they either didn’t know her or were not close.
None of which really excuses all this lightheartedness when they’re about to tell Danny that someone died saving his life in the presence of a good friend of that someone.
see Joyce, self-discovery is not a bad thing. you found something new to enjoy AND learnt a valuable lesson for when you finally snap and kidnap Danny before killed and replaced off pannel by the slightly more sane joyce 1.1…
Ugh, Danny, you asshole. “Why are YOU here?” Really? It’s too bad it’s the set-up for the punchline, because he deserved to be told off for that, if not punched in the face.
To be fair, it’s probably what all of the readers were thinking; it kinda feels like Sarah was there just to round it out, since she had no particular connection to Danny or Ruth.
My favorite part is how happy Joyce looks about being tied up outside the door. Her discovery of her own kinky side is way more important than someone she’s met twice dying…
Sarah doesn’t like to be watched, but knowing someone’s nearby works.
And its still all light and airy.
Ohohoho! Those wacky kids! Someone just died!
I do forget if everyone gets real somber in a sec, but it is weird seeing them be so nonchalant right now.
Well how ELSE do you get dramatic tension wondering if Ruth actually perished in her heroic act or not if they’re all somber and shit?
[ignoring Willis’s commentary saying as such that wasn’t there in the initial run]
I was going to mention that too, the sitcom mood seems a bit jarring to me.

Finally, someone who gets it!

True. At this stage, no-one knew about Ruth/Billie- not the characters, the readers or even the cartoonist.
“I remember now! I got beaned by Joe’s Optimus Prime!”
no wait
it was Danny’s Optimus wasn’t it goddamnit ruined my own crap joke
“…and the fists were missing, too!”
There’s MY crap joke
Meanwhile, Sarah was also getting beaned by Joe’s Optimus Prime.
I love that that’s actually a detail that pops up again later.
…Seriously? I do not remember this.
……………I did.
Who knew she’d be so happy about it?

Wait, I always wondered where Dina learned those skills.

Ruth died twice?
Once in the crash, again by her parents for getting in a crash.
Who doesn’t need to put Joyce in bondage in order to climax?

No, no, look at Joyce’s smile. She needs to be tied up and listening to other people getting it on to climax.
