Dink!
on September 20, 2021 at 12:01 amChapter: The Wedding
Characters: Amber O'Malley, Donna Warner, Fake Rachel, Jason Chesterfield, Joe Rosenthal, Joyce Brown, Mrs. Brown, Robin DeSanto
Location: The Wedding Church
Mrs. Brown is always playing the long game.
“Why wait for tonight, just do it now”
“uh”
“I WILL FIGHT THEM GET BANGIN”
I’d like to believe I would never pressure my kids like that but I guess I’d have to have them to do that huh
I only do it jokingly, like when my kid moved to a new city and she said her apartment building didn’t allow pets I was like “whaaaaaaaa??? I WANT GRANDBABIES. NOW GO FIND AN APARTMENT THAT ALLOWS DOGS”
Oh phew, I was worried she might end up doing something endearing.
I finally figured out the common thread between Walkyverse Carol and Dumbiverse Carol as a cohesive character.
It’s that every time you think either one of her has the capacity to be a good person, she will immediately prove you wrong.
I know, right?
Yes Carol, traumatize your child. Make her think you’re dying so you can extract a literal death-bed promise from her and then act like you “got her”.
Fuckin’ hell.
What’s weird for me is that I find Walkyverse!Carol to be the worse of the two. I can at least see how Dumbiverse!Carol could justify her actions to herself, that she’s convinced herself that she’s doing the right thing.
I can’t really see that with this Carol.
…I mean, being able to justify your actions to yourself doesn’t automatically make you a better person than someone who can’t justify their actions to themselves, if your actions are still worse than theirs.
I probably should said “more hateable of the two”. D!Carol’s actions are objectively worse, but I think she’s pitiful in a way W!Carol is not.
As I said yesterday: Cathartic provided you ignore what happens next. Unfortunately, what happens next is only possible because she took that bullet.
I hope it leaves a scar that aches whenever there’s a storm coming. Or maybe just when she sits down. Because seriously, fuck Carol in any universe. Dumbingverse is maybe a bit more loathsome but Walkyverse does this and the birth control sabotage in addition to standard pressure and ugh, it’s like trying to compare Blaines.
Mike: Is now not a good time for me to talk about Rachel shooting a *** Mrs. Brown’s ***
… that crying Joyce in the penultimate panel is just heart wrenching.
Emotional blackmail? at my wedding?
Eeeehhhh what?

What happened to the alien inside?
Beheaded along with the robot suit, I’m guessing.
I had assumed the pilot seat was in the chest when the Rachel suit was closed, and only raised when it opened
So like, was Donna singling out Amber because she recognizes her mom even through the brainwashing, or is it just coincidence for plot convenience/Easter Egg?
¿Por qué no los dos?
For fucks sake Carol you took a bullet in the ass just for that.
And here I was assuming Carol’s wound was fatal. How disappointing that it’s not.
i don’t get all the joycemom hate here*
she’s grandkid-crazy. that’s it, that’s her whole story, except when she puts it on pause to act like an ideal mom, and she just does that just to set up another “aaakk i’m grandkid crazy rarrrr” bit
i mean sure people are sort of right that “do what i say because i’m dying–for you to do it, sike” is a bad thing to say but you’re gonna miss out on a lotta laughs if you’re always “is daffy duck a sociopath”
we already have joe not saying “dang i wanted to f##k that fembot”** and mike not being much of a dick really and walky not talking about poo, someone has to still be doing their thing or is this even still it’s walky
*in doa she’s not a comedy character so it’s different there
**bee-tee-dubs that robot head came off super easy, did joe get a wolverine skeleton and i missed it, forget sex, he could’ve decapitated her with one sloppy kiss
To some extent, I think it is probably a result of familiarity with the sheer awfulness that is DoA Carol painting perceptions of the original.
But even disregarding DoA, though, at the end of the day all of Joyce’s hangups and neuroses regarding sex are a direct result of how her parents raised her– so Carol’s constant pushing for Joyce to have a kid despite her obvious discomfort comes off as a callous disregard for the trauma that she herself inflicted. (Not saying Hank gets off scot-free where raising Joyce is concerned, but he’s at least not taking part in Carol’s current antics).
Yeah. It’s also one of those things where some of what she does (the endless pressuring, the sabotaging Joyce and Walky’s birth control) are things people do actually have to deal with… and they’re not funny. At all. Birth control sabotage in particular is usually something a manipulative or abusive partner does to keep their victim tied to them through a baby. And pressuring her only daughter, specifically, for grandkids constantly kind of brings to mind a lot of garbage that women in particular who DON’T want kids have to deal with constantly. (I’m sure men also get a dose of the ‘but once you have one, you’ll realize how incomplete your life was!’ bullshit. I’m also pretty sure they can get a vasectomy without getting the ‘but are you SURE you don’t want kids?’ and ‘what if you meet a man and get married and change your mind?’ bullshit women face.)
Like, I can have a startled laugh at the Freshman Family Weekend strip where Naomi responds to Ethan having a girlfriend by telling him to ‘fuck her brains out’ while still finding this an actively horrible thing for her to say, and judge her accordingly. The two do not
* The two do not cancel each other out.
It’s basically the lack of boundaries over Joyce’s uterus in specific (Walky just happens to be willing to put his stuff in there, I doubt she cares about him beyond that)
a really gross exaggeration of a really gross thing that happens IRL
I covered up “Rachel” below the freckles and it looks real.
Very effective use of how just a few lines turn “her” into a convincingly creepy robot part.
I’m confused as to how the alien pilot fits inside the animatronic body. Joe would’ve had to decapitate them if we take the reveal sequence at face value:
https://www.itswalky.com/comic/eugh-gross/
But then they’d have to be inside the ‘neck’, which is too small for them. Maybe the seat lifts up and down inside the torso, for easier access (and to make the reveal look cooler)? Even if we don’t see it, that sounds like a Head Alien move. Then the head could just be full of processors and sensors.
I honestly love Carol for this lol
