Amazing. I think I quite liked Howard when I read the original Roomies strips published elsewhere on the net, but this strip has already gotten me to start to dislike him. I am now all apprehensive about things to come.
What?! Do you think we trekkies are all obsessive, petty and rude?
… well, okay, we’re a little like that.
Still, Howie is still upset about Janeway in 2002?
Voyager is my favorite series since it was the one that was airing while I was growing up. I can accept that there were flaws and that it wasn’t as good really as TNG but knowing that so many people hate it sucks. No matter what it’s going to be my favorite because of the memories attached to watching it with my father. Which this was… a very long way of saying that I am happy to see at least one other person saying they like Voyager.
Light saber brand is a decent joke, but man, I’m still upset you missed the opportunity to call them Comicon-doms. (‘Cept Comicon was a registered trademark and all, so it wouldn’t have worked anyway…)
Seen against the backdrop of the recent palaver and discussions on the Internet, this storyline is a bit interesting. It’s sort of…halfway there? The message is obviously “bein’ a creepy dick to creators or people involved in creation sucks, don’t do it”, but Howard only gets comeuppance by being a different kind of creepy dick, one that his friends don’t approve of.
I dunno. I never really got this storyline.
It still works, though! Howard may be a different kind of creepy dick, but his friends don’t approve of him kissing Mulgrew specifically. Sexual assault otherwise is fine.
Gotta admit, seeing Howard talk about hot ‘con chicks makes me flash to Tony Harris and his thinking about con-hot. Just the turn of phrase.
As bad as Howard’s implication there is, at least he’s not assuming they’re faking being geeky – he’s just assuming they’d be interested enough in him to come prepared for the possibility.
That’s because in those days, they were so rare you had no reason to question it if you met one. The depraved mindset being it’s a godsend so shouldn’t prod. Nowadays, geek girls are almost common place, see people will feel need to force the male centric domination by calling them in question.
Basically Shortpacked? Sounds amazing!
Basically amazing.
Please tell me that Light Saber brand condoms glow in the dark.
Seems like they should glow in the light as well!
That happens in Joyce and Walky at some point
Where’s the overbearing dictator with alien-resurrected Carmine Infantino?

The Power of Fanwars is great.
Smart Ruth. Also, you may want to hide there to avoid being ripped apart by proxy. Then again, it is Ruth, she might be able to take the nerds, but…

The story was written in 2002, but takes place in 1998.
Some people from EVERY fandom are like that.
… And they’re usually the loudest ones.
It’s Proto-Packed!
Howard in this storyline is everything I despise, but he’s so oblivious to how wrongheaded his behavior is that I can’t bring myself to hate him.
Don’t worry, I can. He makes it easy.
Voyager was better than DS9, and Janeway might well be my favorite captain.
There, I said it.

“What all do you got in here?” That phrase seems odd in my ears.
Just imagine that in the movie Ruth is voiced by Joe Pesci, and it sounds fine.
I was going to make a comment similar to Mr. Random’s, until I realized how right you were.
Oh god, I just remembered how this ends. *covers eyes*

I don’t think “fake geek girl” was a thing in 1998.

But Janeway was the most entertaining Captain of them all! And her voice was magnificent!
And the original series is unwatchable crap anyway, the movies aren’t too bad though.
Unwatchable crap? Have you seen “I, Mudd”? ‘Cuz that’s comedy gold.
I’m not TOS fanboy who thinks every episode is great, (I’m a TNG guy myself) but I think it had some good moments.
TOS is a bit hit or miss but it’s worth it for those moments when it really swings one out of the park.
I have a confession to make.
I have never seen anything Star Trek related. Except for the J.J. Abrams movie.
You are not alone.
Watch TNG on Netflix. The first two seasons can be hit-or-miss but the rest tends to be really good.
Ahh, the halcyon pre-Enterprise days.
Howard brought condoms? I thought he was stupid, not delusional.
D: But I loved Janeway. ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Heh. I would never have picked it. He’s like the Duncan of…
Some store that… isn’t Shortpacked?
