Location: Squad 128's apartment
My pal Graham’s dad is an immigrant from the UK, and when I met him, I was addressed as my online handle. It was delightful.
I expressed my glee in comic strip form.
Edit: Graham got engaged today so huzzah
My brain has started given Jason the voice of Nigel Uno
I’m thinking Simon Jones
James May.
Craig Charles.
“It’s not Cloister! It’s Lister! Lister the Stupid!”
Nah, I tend to hear Jason as Martin Freeman.
This strip reminded me of this.

Also,
I might have been a little too childish to have appreciated this at the time it was originally made. What was your online handle?
I’ve only really known you as Willis.
I’ll give you a hint: It’s
Pregnancy??
Good to be King?
Monty Python’s Flying Circus?
How I imagine Jason became squad leader.
Big boss: Okay we need a new leader for squad 128, how about Walky?
Walky: I’m gonna eat nachitoes for breakfast!
Big boss: uh, no…Joyce?
Joyce: I can’t remember anything!
Big boss: Probably not. Mike?
Mike: I hate you all.
Big boss: Moving on, Sal?
Walky: She’s not here.
Big boss: Crap! Okay Jason is squad leader.
… it had never occurred to me that ‘Walky’ must sound more like ‘Wocky’ in Willis’ voice.
Wockerton. It’s Wocky.
Huh.
I’ve always pronounced it Wal-key
Why wouldn’t that be the default pronunciation? Walkerton is a real name, that’s how it’s pronounced where I am. And even before finding out it was short for a longer name, seeing ‘Walky’ just made me assume ‘walk, but with a y at the end’.
Because I’m British, and ‘walk’ is pronounced like ‘orc’ here. Walky rhymes with ‘war key’ or ‘World War Three’. (Struggling a bit for rhymes because Brit English doesn’t sound the ‘r’ at the end like some US accents do.)
I fact I’ve been trying to determine Graham’s dad’s accent from the comic. We’ve got about as many strong regional accents as the US does, in a land mass about half the size of California.
