What’s going through the head of head Alien 2? Is he trying to convince himself he’s as good enough and not a incompetent failer like this universes? Is he worried that his own success in his own dimension was a fluke?
How many times did he succeed in the other timelines?
Heady* II knows that it was Sal who killed his counterpart, knows that she’d learned from experience how not to let his manipulations get to her, and that he’s terrified of what she would do to him if he killed the son she never had with the man she loved and lost right in front of her.
And yet, he’s tempted to do it all the same. It’s like he wants to see if this could be the straw that breaks Sal’s resolve again and brings her back under his control, or at least gives him the satisfaction of watching her suffer. He knows it won’t go the way he wants, but he’s just dying to see what would happen on the off chance he’s wrong. His self-preservation is just barely winning out, and he cannot have Monkey Master second-guessing his decision because he knows his selfishness will get the better of him, and Sal will kill him without hesitation. That is what he fears.
*is this a thing other people call Head Alien, or just me
Then why doesn’t he just have Monkey Master squash both of them, so he’s absolutely sure they’re both dead? Is he afraid of another set of their alternate universe counterparts coming after him?
Basically, Monkey Master hated and resented Head Alien from the start. It’s a real Megatron/Starscream relationship in almost every way. Given who is writing this, it isn’t a surprise.

He fears Danny.
My guess:

It’s Hedley.

He’s only mostly dead.
As much as I love to quote Yip Harburg, “He’s really most sincerely dead” doesn’t apply here.
And my brain is bouncing between Wizard of Oz and that scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and I don’t know which one this scene will end on.
