Aha, how the tables have turned!
A year after this strip published, The Lion King II would make sure everyone knew Scar wasn’t gay by giving him a wife and some kids, but they never touched “Who is Nala’s father?” deal, far as I know. Â Worries of gayness > worries of incest.
Here’s some The Lion King fanart I drew three years earlier in 1994.
The dangers of being a college kid watching Disney movies.
Heh… I didn’t have these problems. XD took them to a common room and other people walked by “I love this movie!” and sat it on it. A couple of guys joined me for The Little Mermaid and some girl joined me for Aladdin…. XD I cannot remember for the life of me remember why I decided to bring a disney VHS collection to school… or having such a collection there… except for when I was watching the VHS tapes.
I’ve had this conversation too. The only answer we came up with was Nala is the child of the former king who Mufasa killed, but he kept all the girl cubs alive.
Nah, Mufasa’s her dad. ‘show it works; the head male lion gets busy with ALL the female lions.
Nature: R-Rated.
R? Bah, that’s only R under the Ontario Film Review Board, where R is the equivalent of NC-17…
That’s why male lions are so lazy.Gotta rest up for all that banging.
Pretty much. I remember reading a study on lions in the ’90s that talked about this, with specific examples of father/daughter, brother/sister and mother/son in prides in the wild.
You know it seems like they are mere minutes into the film.
I think Danny prepared Remarks
He has a writing team of Minnesotans feeding him lines.
No, they’re clearly at the end of the film where Simba’s and Nala’s son is born. Hence the incest relevance.
The Lion King, instilling children with reverence for the divine right of kings.
Lions are pretty nuts about rape too, while we’re on the subject. They must be republicans. *Badum tish*
Lion King II actually goes out of its way to say that Kovu, and only Kovu I guess, is not Scar’s son, because otherwise he’d be Kiara’s cousin. Apparently the plan was to make him Scar’s son, but I never found out if that was because the writers were really going for “Yes, because that’s what lions do,” or if they really hadn’t noticed.
That…actually is a good point. Score 1 Willis of the Past.
Actually, Mufasa *is* Nala’s father. When a male lion defeats the leader of a pride and takes it over, he kills all the cubs. The females won’t mate with him otherwise. The real puzzle is how Nala is still alive after Scar takes over.
The answer is simple: Because Scar was a shitty king.
I dunno, any guesses I could make would insinuate pedophilia.
Thus the underlying theme of the lion king: the male lion that doesn’t kill all the babies when taking over will be fed to hyenas.
Also Simba created a gross lion act by going back to his old pride. The male lion is supposed to find a new pride full of babies to kill. Keeps genetic diversity up. Shame on you Simba! Mufasas ghost must have been sad.
They’re having a Puritan-off and I can’t believe Danny’s winning. You’d think having Joe as a friend would have desensitized him a bit.
But then.. He does have a point. On the other hand, they’re lions.
Nala and Simba were cousins, canonically.
Actually it’s never directly stated that Scar’s son is his, biologically. It’s actually sort of hinted that he adopted him. Scar is still totes gay 😉
