Oh, right, and WORLD’S WORST is bolded in that middle panel. Pic, Perc, myself, and others did some purposefully bad/funny Transformers stories back then under the “World’s Worst Fanfic” banner. They were mostly gay jokes.

I honestly have no recollection of this strip at all.
Also, is ‘Prove your faith, brethren’ supposed to be particularly funny, or am I missing something? (Mostly intrigued by how it fits into the evolution of Willis’s beliefs, truth be told…)
The Alien henchmen are sort of a Power Booster Rod cult. The joke was referenced every time the tree branch appeared.
