It was mostly just a running gag around the fact that most of the IRL Squad 37 were a big fan of zombie movies (the chainsaw was my idea and is, was, and always will be an Evil Dead II reference – there’s a LOT of Ash in Hooper).
I don’t know that it was ever given any more thought than that, tbh.
