So, I’ve been watching Lucifer on Netflix lately.
Recently a case involved a printed letter – that is, a single letter. There’s a bit where they are holding it upside down and think that a W is actually an M – except the font used has serifs, making it clear at a glance that their “M” is just an upside down W and making the detectives look like idiots for not understanding how letters work.
Lucifer is pure candy fluff. Even Supernatural has more substance. Now, I am not saying that’s necessarily bad. Just… not to expect much depth or sophistication.
We really like Burton’s restaurant; they have good food and service, and they’re meticulous about dealing with dietary restrictions. The only thing that drives me crazy is that they put a “W” on both bathroom doors, and my brain is wired such that I have to pause and study them and consciously go through the door with the “W” that happens to be upside-down.
That’s simple, if more work (and more lucrative). Attach a prize give away, an active consent TOU allowing you to collect and use personal info at your discretion, and required fields for real name, physical address, email address and phone number (all needed to send physical prizes). You can then sell the data generated by your polls to pay for the prizes with some extra income for you on the side… 😉
One has Serif, and the other doesn’t, right?

And that is my story about serifs.
TBH I doubt there are many fonts in general where ʍ and m could be confused, serif or no.

That might be a good idea, except you have to find a way to make sure people will actually want to visit your website and vote in those polls.

Serif don’t like it
Rock the casbah

Lock the taskbar, lock the taskbar.
Wash the cat’s box, wash the cat’s box.
I shot the serif,
But I did not shoot typography.
Do you want “Boaty McBoatface”? Because THIS is how you get “Boaty McBoatface”.
Joe in the last panel: He’s chiding Walky for caring about the difference between serif and san serif, right?
I don’t see him pointing out (or knowing) that serif and san serif are really not fonts.
Serif, duh
On a website, no
Serif is for printed material, sans serif for screens
As per the font police or whoever
