It *used* to be the go to site for computer nerd/hacker news and culture. It has, over several years, had the life sucked out of it. It is currently owned by a corporate entity who, when creating a new sub site featuring articles on “Business Intelligence,” whatever that is, decided it would be a good idea to call the site SlashBI.
I am not making this up.
Slash is porn of two fictional characters. It’s like shipping, but porn.
So-called because you denote it with a forward slash, as in “this is some hot Junpei/Akane porn.”
Isn’t Pandora music? Or thinking of something else.
If Alex a smart hacker he’d be off the net a minute ago, and signed on with one of his floating ip’s. Guess he’s still learning 😉
Slashdot’s still around, but it’s gone waaaay downhill. Half the community revolted over the last site change, which was objectively babies, and the advertisements-disguised-as-news have gotten annoyingly blatant.
Most of the /. ex-pats congregate at SoylentNews.org instead. If you want to know what Slashdot was like when it was good, go there instead.
Yeah, as they say, it is around, but in a sad state. It got worse steadily for a while, but when it was sold to Dice and Rob (CmdrTaco) left it just dropped.
One of my main online social groups got started there in the heyday, but we migrated away years ago… Still largely together though!
*checks*
Yep, Slashdot still exists. I even remembered my account password there, which I haven’t used in something like fifteen years.
What exactly is it?
His password? Hold on, I’ll check.
…No, haven’t got his Slashdot password, but I can give you his social security number, credit card information, and a few vials of DNA. Good enough?
Did you get those from Facebook? 😉
If he did, they’re not mine.
No, only Google Plus has a “real DNA” policy. Facebook will accept any sample, as long as it’s metazoan.
… DNA from what kind of cell?
Prison cell.

… I fear I am missing something big about that name…
Think internet culture. Think what the words slash and bi mean in that context.
…That’s the part I’m missing. All I’m getting is Gay/Bi.
Is this one of those NSFW things?

So-called because you denote it with a forward slash, as in “this is some hot Junpei/Akane porn.”
And of course, bi means there will be M/M, M/F, and F/F porn.
(Dina’s talking to herself… So that’s why you’re called “Crazy.”)
Slash fiction… like Kirk/Spock. Fan fic pairing two characters together romantically and or sexually.
Huh.
…I was expecting fanfiction.
I’m kinda disappointed it’s not.
Has something about Pandora streaming on it. I’m guessing it’s a news aggregate site.
Suddenly, Tron!
Isn’t Pandora music? Or thinking of something else.

Now this reference totally blew over my head when I first read this the fuck is SLASH DOT.org ? Maybe its a result of being a 90’s kid.
Nah, its more like being a nerd since back in early 2000s, or at least somewhat of a nerd
