Sarah. WHY?

Oh, huh, I was expecting more zombies today. I’d forgotten that this week switched back and forth to Joyce/Sarah over in New York.
Also: Bart O’Ryan’s face in panel one is hilarious.
As usual, I find myself on Sarah’s side.
Well one would be lying if they said Joyce here didn’t have a few screws loose. But the other stuff eh.
Well, it’s good to see that cold-blooded murder has some consequences, at least.
Joyce, just how much “stuff” do you even have?
Whoa whoa Sarah come down a bit don’t know where this is coming from but you seem to be venting a bit.
The stuff National Security Security makes it sound like Joyce is the head of the FBI and and not a girl in her mid-20s who was drafted into a special forces Army. Also yeah I wouldn’t say it’s being born in a position of power and more like being kidnapped and experimented on to have power.
Yeah, when you consider SEMME is made up pretty much entirely of child soldiers kidnapped in childhood by a hostile force and then experimented on and tortured, who were all subsequently gathered up and their deaths faked when a command implant was activated, that’s… damn victim-blamey. Should Joyce be in a position of high military power? Not really, but one of the things about SEMME is that by its nature, NONE OF THE ABDUCTEES are going to be in very good mental shape to lead. They’re all vulnerable to at least some of HA’s triggers and he probably had records somewhere to fall back on for whoever ended up in charge on how best to mentally fuck with them. And honestly since none of them got a damn CHOICE in fighting this war (not even Robin, since choosing superpowers as a prepubescent child is way different than consenting to fight in a hopeless war after being brainwashed,) having less leadership that are themselves abductees… probably would not be good either. Like, especially based off the options we know they have. Internal documents almost certainly discuss what all these kids went through to HAVE that power.
…Now I really wanna see an It’s Walky/Worm crossover; Abductees fit really well with the way parahumans work in Worm, with the whole trauma thing.
Unless there’s been off-panel press releases since the interview with Bart O’Ryan, Joyce is the public face of SEMME. Which in retrospect is just another one of their outrageously boneheaded moves, given the cold-blooded murdered skeleton in her closet. It’s like if Sarah “Aunt Lydia” Sanders’ family had a predilection for killing dogs.
…wait
Eh, to be fair, she’s the closest they have to a perfect face if it wasn’t for the whole murder thing.
I mean yes, true, Joyce’s parents seem to have a big house, and the financial stability to raise six children is nothing to sneeze at. But she was hardly “born into” superpowers, and she mostly failed upwards at her government job.
.. Is… Isn’t that worse?
In theory, but in practice, I think you’d be hard-pressed to find someone successful who didn’t fail upwards into their position.
And before anyone makes the joke, regardless of his starting position, if you think about the steak, university, and all his other failed ventures, I think no one could be said to have failed upwards more than our current president. Would just be nice if he… you know… stopped failing.
But to honest though Joyce, no I don’t think a high ranking lawyer wants your plushie doll collection and you can keep your boyfriend that’s all you.
well I think Joyce means the “born into positions of power and wealth” part
but yeah plushies devalue p fast
I mean, Joyce was selected at random to be an abductee and became a notable ranked member of SEMME because, uh, plot.
Not arguing with you Sarah, Joyce doesn’t have much of an ethos.
I was gonna do that Big Lebowski bit, but the world we are stuck in puts a cramp on that.
Joyce is deliberately quoting Jesus here, right?
Another strip that made me despise Sarah on a profound level.
Sarah would have a point except Joyce and the rest of the abductees in SEMMF weren’t born with their powers, and I don’t think we’ve ever actually seen anything about what they’re paid for working for SEMMF.
Is that worse? That sounds worse.
Oh my God, they were roommates.
