Merry Christmas, Sweetie!
on March 23, 2020 at 12:01 amChapter: Gift of the Walki
Characters: David Walkerton, Joyce Brown
Location: Joyce and Walky's apartment
me: *thinks Gift of the Magi references are hilarious*
also me: goddammit now i have to draw walky’s hair slowly growing back over the course of months of strips
also also me: worth it
I guess Walky’s not a Wise Man
“Of all who give and receive gifts, such as they are wisest. Everywhere they are wisest. They are the magi.”
So, like, you just go to the wig shop and they’ll buy your hair?
Apparently so. Or at least you could in O. Henry’s day.
It’s entirely possible Walky couldn’t find anyone to buy his hair and just bought a pocketwatch chain with his own money, but either didn’t discover this until after he’d shaved his head, or just shaved his head anyway because That Is How The Bit Goes.
I believe this was a free strip cause I actually bought the member strips and this was the one that convinced me.
It was, but it interweaves with the concurrent membership storyline.
It’s weird thinking that someone would buy Walky’s hair, or that it’s enough to buy more than a really cheap pocketwatch
I mean, I thought the Gift of the Magi was terrible, like, at least her hair grows back, when is he growing a new pocketwatch
Yeah – he really didn’t have enough length.
Joyce’s hair is barely long enough to sell, and she’d practically have to go bald to get enough.
Being Walky it seems really unlikely he has a hair care routine that would leave his hair very useful regardless. Someone wanting samples of his DNA does seem more likely.
Might be able to sequence Martian genes from it. Could be very useful for a mad scientist.
The hair only bought the chain. Walky will pay for the pocketwatch itself out of his own pocket.
I was thinking chain and somehow didn’t type it. Midnight brain, I guess
I remembered it as Jim pawning the watch, which mitigates this slightly, but I just checked and nope, he says “sold”.
The stars are brightly shining… also Walky’s head.
Time to find a wig using the pocketwatch money? Or drape the coat over his head?
I’m amazed he managed to keep her from seeing his head until that very moment
I was just thinking that. Was he wearing a hat until after she spoke in the first panel?
Well, your hair will grow back by then.
Well it was funny.
Walky should keep it shaved and paint a blue arrow on his head. Though I doubt airbending is an abductee ability.
He can bend the air, sort of, the air from his posterior.
Having never seen this, Dorothy’s (upcoming) “The hair stays” in DofA takes on a whole new light.
Walky has a habit of making things needlessly complicated, doesn’t he?
How many times is he going to say “make it so” in the upcoming strips?
I feel like Captain America on the flying monkeys, “I GET THAT ONE!”
