Lousy dork
on October 1, 2013 at 12:01 am“Aw man, all these guys in college are losers. Â I guess I’ll have to settle for this can-headed doofus listening to music through headphones while in his own room. Â No, no, wait, look at that giant-ass boombox. Â Pass, no deal.”
So how many notches does this Joe have on his bedpost compared to DOA Joe? Whittled down of barely a scratch?
I tried to run the numbers on this once. He got 2030 by January 14, 2004, if that helps.
And keep in mind that that’s how many women he’s slept with, not how many times he’s had sex.
I always got the impression that Joe didn’t sleep with the same girl twice (they say it’s better the second time, they say you get to do the weird stuff) until he met his girlfriend.
His relations with Squadron 48 disproves that impression, I think.
(Also, I understood that reference.)
We do the weird stuff…
Wait, didn’t that boombox have more of a 😀 look?
Fun fact. I performed a job interview today. Mostly questions about programming languages, but I finished off with “Kirk or Picard?”
I find it’s a good gauge of personality. There’s no right answer, it’s more about WHY they pick that one. And I can always tell when some weasel is trying to figure out which I want to hear.
And anyone who isn’t familiar with Star Trek at least a little wouldn’t last five minutes in our office anyway. My supervisor can recite Shakespeare passages in Klingon.
“the new kirk because it makes nerds mad”
I would gladly accept that answer.
My supervisor would spin his head around and speak in tongues.
thus willis’ plan is succesful
yeah. yeah, it does.
Picard.
Honestly, it’s mostly because he’s the one I grew up with, but he always struck me as more of an explorer than Kirk.
If I had hiring/firing power at a company I’d make one of the interview questions “Joel or Mike?”.
Mostly because I’ve got almost no knowledge or opinions on Star Trek.
Easy. You want to gauge their personality, not start a war.
According to who?
Then the real question is if you work at the Gay Bar. (Gay Bar Gay Bar)
Kirk, since I have only seen TOS. I’m old school like that, even though
my parentssome untrustworthy people claim I was born after “All Good Things…” aired. And in some weird way that makes me feel old. The human mind is truely strange.Obviously, the correct answer is Dr. Elizabeth Weir!
(…but not whatever producers/executives demoted her to recurring character and broke Torri Higginson’s six year main character contract, screw those guys. (…but did I just insult the main creators of that franchise? Eep, I wouldn’t normally.(Also, nested parenthesis)))
Technically, you’re supposed to alternate parentheses and brackets in that case, but I’m a weird grammar person.
also sisko is clearly the awesomest captain.
Agreed! Sisko is the best!
Ummm, Archer? (runs away laughing maniacally)
Got to agree here. Seriously.
archer is the WILD CARD, oh my goodness, I got whiplash watching Enterprise! also I liked almost nobody but trip, t’pol & phlox, who was CLEARLY just neelix with all the dumb ironed out and some occasional CG
oh godddd I have so many star trek Opinions
I watched the originals, and loved the original Star Trek tv series just because of the first years writing skill. The second and partial third seasons fell of a good bit when they stopped using published SciFi writers.
A very surprised group of people found out that Science Fiction was pretty good back in the 60’s.
Whoopie Goldberg said her first viewing of the show sent her running to her parents hollering that there was a “black lady on Tv and she ain’t a maid”. She said that she knew that day that she could be anything she wanted to be, and she did it.
I got a feeling she didn’t say ‘black lady’ in the sixties, but what she did say probably wouldn’t play today.
And Mr. W., “The new Kirk” does not make me mad”. I am a dyed in the wool nerd/geek. But, I can recognize that the new Kirk very much could have been the old Kirk’s younger self. I like them both. In fact all of the new crew showed the ‘roots’ of their older selves. Only one that was a bit surprising to me was Urhura, she played a lot more extroverted than her older self. And Scotty was great – the cycnical woman hater just budding. Bones as dry and cynical and grouchy as he was later. I loved Spock, very vulnerable, on the road to finding himself, not as conflicted as he grew into. Kirk the woman hopping, brash, smart ass renegade. Oh yeah. Think they did a fine job.
Picard was not more of an explorer I don’t think. He was just a better actor. The special effects smoother than the originals.
The original ST series was all over the galaxy, exploring, delivering supplies to far flung outposts, checking out new civilizations while attempting to follow the first rule of no interference (and usually failing). Not to mention delving into each of the crews personal life stories by visiting their home planets or relatives on other stations, or showing them relaxing with 3 tier chess, Spocks harp, and Uhura’s singing.
I admired Janeway but didn’t much care for that series or the battlestar one either.
There is just so much to all of the Trek’s so enjoy ’em. Enough out there to choose from
I’ve never watched any ST, so I have nothing to add about this super post, I just felt like saying that Whoopie Goldberg probably did use the term “black lady,” as opposed to “something that wouldn’t play today.” The word “black” has been used for centuries, and the bad word versions have always been just as insulting, so a young black child would probably not be using those versions. She most likely said the quote as it was quoted.
I know that was a really insignificant part of your post, I just felt like addressing it since it sounded like you thought racist terms were the only vocabulary people knew in the 60s.
Not entirely true. The worst of the bad words, certainly, but looking back at just comics and toy packaging in the 60s (stuff aimed at children and for general consumption), you see a Barbie character named “Colored Francie” and a GI Joe called “Negro Soldier”, even an entire comic series called “Negro Comics”. At the time, both “colored” and “Negro” were considered acceptable for everyday usage, but are now recognized as offensive.
Pfft Sisko was clearly the most awesome….I assume I’ve seen the first episode and really liked Sisko.
You are not wrong.
seriously that dude is bomb
Wait, if Janeway’s such a loser, why was Howard so excited to see her before?
He dislikes the character (or at least claims to) but finds the actress attractive. When in the same room with her, the latter impulse won out over the former.
Maybe he’s actually a Janeway fan, but is so repressed that his favorite activity is to bitch about how much she sucks.
What? Howard doesn’t like Janeway. Howard is a true Star Trek fan.
What did that weasle say about Sisko? O_O
*punches Howard in the face* SISKO IS THE BEST EVER AND TOTALLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN MY DAD YOU TAKE THAT BACK YOU LOSER!
Seriously, why can’t Sisko be my dad?
