I’ll see you off
on August 15, 2016 at 12:01 amChapter: Perverse Sexual Lust
Characters: Alan Rees, Grace Svenson, Guns, Joe Rosenthal, Joyce Brown, Mandy Kowalski, Marcie Diaz, Sierra Snow
Location: Alan's training room
When Joe first joined SEMME, and he was asking about the Ladies Situation, it became apparent to me that SEMME was kind of a sausage fest. Â And so, BAM!, here’s a SEMME squadron that’s all ladies. Â The squad number is 48 because “X” is the twenty-fourth letter of the alphabet and, uh, multiply that by two for, um, gender essentialist reasons.
But hey, Dumbing of Age readers, check out the Walkyverse introduction of Grace, Marcie, Mandy, and Sierra.
Also, there’s Guns.
Joe is such a lucky bastard.
has Guns shown up in Dumbing of Age? in a firearm-toting capacity or otherwise?
no, because uh… guns??
Somebody forgot to tell Toedad that. He wouldn’t have appeared then.
well, contrary to what “2nd Amendment people” would have, villains normally stand out as being gun-toters where no one else totes guns
so basically she’d have to be a villain, or have to have a rather bizarre rationale for that name, because I’m pretty sure Willis isn’t the type to promote a college girl pistol-slinging for the hell of it
(or she’s appeared under a completely different name, look, style, and possibly even gender)
((and I think I’m stretching it by now but w/e ’cause I’m wasting time trying to decide if I should make myself go to bed before work after sleeping off a headache LITERALLY the whole day))
I saw an awesome concept that Willis did of a dumbing of age Guns where she was a body building buff and the “guns” were her muscles. Dunno why he chose not to put her in, though
@vmgx: Because he hates her. Unless I badly misremember, he’s outright said that, in either that or other words. The drawing was an April Fools’ Joke after having previously said she would never appear.
Don’t believe so. Is she based off of a real person, like Hooper? IIRC that’s why he’s not in DoA.
She hasn’t, and it’s apparently because Willis hates the character.
She popped up for an april fools joke on tumblr, but that’s it.
k found it here: http://itswalky.tumblr.com/post/81423773440/i-have-bowed-to-your-demands-and-added-guns-to
But the redesign of Guns for DoA was so COOL. She was obsessed with her biceps, and that’s why she had the name “Guns”.
And, just for the sake of argument, here it is:

…oops, Jen and I posted it at the same time. 😀
She’s like … if Malaya had motivation.
the Sausage Fest and the Harem, polar ends of the trope spectrum
Only a harem once Joe gets there.
Wait, if one guy with a lot of girls pursuing/owned is a harem, and one girl with a lot of guys pursuing/owned is a reverse harem… why is it if it’s one girl and a lot of girls? (Or one guy and a lot of guys, but the former is more interesting to me because reasons that have everything to do with me being a gay trans girl.)
Sausage Fest = all dudes
Clambake = all gals
…I guess a reverse harem is called… reverse harem
Whelp.
Pretty sure Daniel doesn’t have puppies.
Wouldn’t 69 be a more fitting squad number?
Did Willis know what 69 was at the time?
Too on-the-nose.
That pose in panel three — “Alan’s Angels”?
What a sexy bunch.
Isn’t “Sierra” a retcon? I thought her name was different in the Walkyverse.
Or did David decide her name was a nickname and we never knew her real name?
Next to Sal Sierra is my fave. Mrowwwwr.
Yeah her name was “Tootie”, right? Like the Facts of Life character.
Tootsie. Like feet.
Oh. I never made that connection before. I read “Tootsie”, I think Dustin Hoffman.
I was intentionally leaving out the name because spoilers.
…that looks like Tedd from El Goonish Shive second from the left panel three…
It’s Marcie.
Sure does, but I think it’s actually Marcie.
Why else would she be standing next to Grace?
“Hi, my name is Guns. And just to drive the point home, I’m going to stick my guns in your face. Nice to meet you.”
Some of these others are almost unrecognizable as their Dumbiverse counterparts. So skinny!
I didn’t remember Grace or Mandy at all from DoA, so I went and looked up their tags. As I suspected, they mostly seem to be easily missable background characters. Grace’s hair seems to have gone suddenly prematurely grey in her last few appearances, though. I guess that shooting incident really shook people up.
*Mandy
Um, she dyed it blue.
We know that face. Someone’s about to get Joed up
…. well I haft to at least thank Willis for having subtlety back then and not doing something dumb like naming it Squadron 69.
And for the missing fifth panel:
“By the way Joe, Team 48 is the horndog lesbian team, so you should all get along just great.”
or
“By the way, Joe, first rule, no fraternization within teams.”
Who would make a character just so they can hate them later? I guess Willis is God.
