Danny’s reasons for wanting to come along are at least as good as Rachel’s. If my wife were in Billie’s situation, you can bet I’d make any argument it took.
This is like when my wife was trying to retool a story she’d written previously. She kept getting stuck on “well, this is the way it was before” and I was like “But you said that didn’t work! You can change it! You can change the whole thing!”
I do admit feeling torn about discarding entire elements of a story that I had percolating from childhood (in one case, a sibling became someone else’s because it was meaningless to the first person but significant to the other) but I viewed it as like watching a child growing up and having to discard notions about “this is how it should be” in order to appreciate “this is how it is”
Also I switched who lived and died, because logic messed everything up
Danny’s very annoying in this continuity, though Joe’s patronizing, condescending bullshit was also so thick, so I am torn on if I can root for the callout or not 😛
I kinda think Danny has a point in this strip as well. Joe and Rachel took his car and turned it into a sentient being, and besides if Danny comes along he’ll hopefully be doing something useful.
People crap on Danny, but this is downright bull crap that Joe all but leaves him stranded there without feeling any kind of remorse- Martian invasion or no
And Joe is qualified? And Rachel? Seriously, Danny getting crapped on is getting ridiculous- he’s about the only character who knows he’s flawed and actually tries to fix his flaws yet he gets crapped on just because people need someone to crap on.
It was funny in the beginning, but it’s gotten to the point of beating a dead horse.
Well, Joe is an abductee and he’s had what passes for training at SEMMF.
Rachel on the other hand? “Hot supermarket chick”? There’s no reason to think at this point she’s got any more reason to go than Danny, despite being a tech geek.
I get that Danny wants to be involved, but “stealing MY chance to save MY girlfriend” is a bad look. You wanna be involved because you wanna be the hero, Dan? You know that’s not how it works, right Dan? You know you might well be a liability, Dan?
I did like that Danny got to go on this mission. Ever since the science fiction stuff started creeping into the comic, he got steadily demoted downward from main character until he basically wasn’t even in the story anymore. Now, at the climax of the whole comic, he gets to be a part of it again just this once.
This would be like if Archie got involved in some big cosmic event. It also goes pretty much exactly like if Archie got involved in some big cosmic event.
Don’t worry people, I’m sure Ultra Car has autopilot.
Joe created a sentient vehicle with no autopilot for reasons.
most of those reasons from before he met and fell in love with Rachel…it might get awkward
THE POWER OF THE DAN COMPELS YOU
I can’t imagine ever riding a sentient horse, for instance, and saying “I’m driving” or the equivalent, like, that horse would just throw me off
I’m torn between being impressed with Danny’s argument and seconding Ultra Car’s “it?”
Ultra Car discovered dehumanization! She is not pleased.
That’s a strange turn of phrase considering that Ultra Car isn’t human.

“Freakin’ Friend”… I’m having flashbacks to MTV’s Daria!
Here whoever ripped this from the disk for Daria’s Inferno and uploaded it did a shit job of the video encoding, but still…
I actually just watched “Is it Fall Yet?” last night.

Annoying? He’s one of the few who at this point has grown beyond his original character and isn’t reverting for comedic sake.
Yes, but to be fair, I really love DoA Danny a lot more than walkyverse danny. So I’m biased.

Hooray for White Knighting!

Guilt! Is there anything it can’t do?
