This might be in my top five comic strips I’ve ever done. I had completely forgotten this existed, that I’d written and drawn it, and while re-reading through some of these strips for the rerun website, I read it in earnest, and was absolutely surprised and delighted at my own punchline. It’s great. It’s great. I could have stopped here and become an accountant.
i will say, however, that the cord on the mouse is marvelously quaint
Quaint? That’s how I find where it went!
Corded mice are objectively superior until someone short-sheets the cord in a misguided attempt at tidy cable management. Other than that they’re great. No interference, as little input lag as possible, no batteries.
(Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical FTW.)
You misspelled “Logitech”.
At one place I temped at, I noticed that a coworker had a mouse at her workstation that was a wired version of the Logitech cordless I had at home. I requested one from the IT guy when he came to swap out coworker’s monitor. (He also offered to switch out my keyboard when he realized I had an IBM Model M…I begged him to leave it, since I’m very hard on keyboards and I loved the buckling spring switches.)
Anyway, when I got the wired mouse, I learned that it’s a lot lighter than the cordless version, and for me that meant I was skating over too much desktop area with the mouse. I now understand why gamer mice often come with interchangeable weights.
And by knowledge, the mouse also moved using a ball…
Sheesh, I’ll be in my bunk.
Is your avatar Sarah from EGS?
Diane, not Sarah. Dan’s style is simple enough they do resemble each other a fair bit, but the bangs are distinguishing even if Sarah isn’t wearing a headband.
Seriously, Walky?
Too much information.
I still use a wired mouse. Am I the weird one? I just don’t see the point, why would I want range if it’s gonna be sitting right here next to the keyboard 24/7 anyway? All that would change is that it’d need charging.
Some wireless mice a pretty okay. They come with charging stations and have enough battery life that the need to recharge them now and again isn’t so bad.
Some of them even come with a wire(or are compatible with wires) in the event you don’t want to go wireless!
…But for my money, and because my PC is kinda terrible, I still prefer a USB optical mouse.
I usually use a wired mouse with my desktop, but I prefer wireless with my laptop. (I hate track pads.) I also use a wireless keyboard and mouse with my HTPC.
Wired will always be superior to wireless. Same as wired connection to internet is always better than wi-fi. Connection never drops out suddenly for a few seconds due to electronic interference.
I wish I could afford to buy a new wireless mouse…the wired one keeps tangling with my game controller and headphones, which have to be wired, since my computer doesn’t do Bluetooth. (I can’t even figure out HOW. They shouldn’t ever cross paths.)
I have a desktop as my main computer, so I think it makes sense that I still use a wired mouse.
Same.
I started using a wireless mouse years ago because laptop trackpads are terrible and it’s great. I don’t do any real hardcore gaming so whatever latency there is isn’t noticeable. I use it constantly for work and at home, and one AA battery lasts around 16-18 months.
I use a little wireless mouse that perfectly fits my relatively small hand, and I can balance my laptop any weird way I want in bed and still have the mouse work without getting all tangled up in it. I can throw it into a separate pouch in my backpack without ever unplugging the dongle. And I don’t seem to have interference issues or drop-out problems pretty much ever. My mouse was $10.
oh yeah, and it’s replaceable AA batteries, so I don’t have to worry about charging
I was given a wireless mouse and keyboard when they upgraded my pc for work. I have recharged the batteries twice in 10 years, and have never recharged the batteries in the keyboard, although I might have to soon, the battery indicator is showing no bars finally.
Hilarious.
I have a wired mouse I have on-hand, but mostly since my laptop has a touchpad. If I want to use a mouse, it’s not really often enough to want to worry about batteries.
It’s not a proper mouse without the wire. It’s part of the reason it’s called a mouse in the first place. The buttons are the ears and the wire is the tail.
The butt-ons are obviously its butt.
What kind of mouse has a tail coming out of its face?
Puts a new spin on Walky as Churchmouse.
Why has no-one ever told Walky that there are some things that one does not simply come out and say to someone at random? Or maybe they have and he wasn’t listening?
