This is my first drawn funeral, right? Â (my only?) Â There were some big deaths before this, between Ruth and Tony and Sal’s parents, but I’m pretty sure this is my first funeral.
Every time I look at that second panel, I get Joshua Radin’s “Winter” stuck in my head, for some reason.  It’s the kind of feeling that almost makes me want to retcon-draw Elizabeth Banks into those chairs.  Almost.
So by transitive property, HE WAS YOU ALL ALONG?!?
in all seriousness tho, this is an awesome strip
except those purple chairs, what
Of course Mike is snoring.
He can come with the excuse that he’s tired from the battle with Monkey Monster. But if he was asked why he slept, he would probably say that funerals are boring.
Or he could say he was tired because he gave somebody a nickle last night.
He’s probably not even asleep, just making snoring noises with his eyes closed.
I wondered who was zzzing. Of course, it’s Mike.
Speaking of Sal where is she did she not even bother to come to the funeral?
Sal is too busy planning her next insanity escalation.
The way the silhouettes and sky behind Jason are in panel two made me think for a second that he had a ridiculous popped collar.
“I should know who I am by now.”
Very striking strip.
Snore on Mike.
Where is Sal though. I find it hard to believe she wouldn’t come if she could?
I think that’s about this point in the comic where Sal goes off the deep end as hard as Amber currently does in DoA.
Look at me still talking when there’s Batmanning to do.
… for the people who are still alive.
Shoot, I’m going to a funeral today. Here’s hoping I don’t end up like Mike.
Dina has a black hat she wears just for funerals?
And it matches her regular hat, too.
So Walky drops some heavy stuff on Head Alien, killing Big Boss by complete accident. And he gets pretty mopey about it. Alright, that’s reasonable.
But he drives away to go find Joyce’s history, which perhaps decides the Abductees’ defeat in a battle with the Aliens and their improved mechs, resulting in the deaths of 15 comrades. And he doesn’t feel any guilt?
sssshhhhhhhh
Yeah, but he knew Big Boss’ name. 😛
Don’t forget Amber’s father’s funeral.
That wasn’t a funeral! That was a visitation!
Wasn’t it really shoddy Martian floor construction that caused this death?
Wait a…does Jason’s outfit have coattails?
Is that son of a bitch wearing a tuxedo to a fucking funeral?
Remind me again why Big Boss was even in the field to begin with? Shouldn’t he have been at home flying a desk?

Right, I’ll just chalk that up to “it seemed like a good idea at the time”, then.
If there was one chance to bring your son back to life wouldn’t you want to personally ensure everything goes right?
Now THIS strip screams “post-9/11” way more than the previous few.
You know, this is a really nice scene, but I can’t help but feel like Ruth deserved a proper funeral scene, too.
Granted she wasn’t killed off five days before 9/11 so I can kinda overlook that, but when fucking Blaine gets a wake and she gets nothing, it kinda feels off.
(Presumably Dumbiverse SPOILARS REDACTED will get his covered in a flashback at some point).
