Grandson?

Characters: Dorothy Keener, Jason Chesterfield, Jennifer Billingsworth, Joe Rosenthal, Machete, Mrs. Brown, Paige Walters, Sal Walters
Location: The Wedding Church
You gotta hand it to Carol Brown, she knows exactly what she wants.
still weird to see sal in a dress
“Why don’t you work in a dang nursery, where there are infinite babies”
“BUT THEY WON’T BE MINE”
“…well ‘yours’ grow up, ya know”
Seriously, does she want Joyce to just keep having children every 3-5 years so that there’s a new one once they’re no longer Maximally Cute? (Given the fundamentalist thing, probably.) Even that’s not going to last forever, because at some point menopause will hit and it’ll probably be before Baby 1 is ready to produce great-grandchildren. (Speaking as the oldest kid of two oldest kids, I am so very thankful to my aunts and uncles who spent long enough before having kids that there is absolutely no pressure on me – or for that matter, my brother, who has a girlfriend but said girlfriend’s in her first year of law school – to fill the baby-shaped void in anyone’s lives.)
Maybe? Remember that Joyce is the youngest of six. That tracks with a new baby every three to five years for her fertile adult life.
Joyce is one of, what, seven siblings here? Maybe that’s what Carol herself did, and she’s projecting that onto Joyce.
Joe continues to be the only one who refuses to dignify this absurd development.
Atleast there’s confirmation they’re going to have the kid Carol, sweet crap.
Most of these kids are from alternate timelines, it doesn’t confirm shit.
Carol continues to be the worst.
It kind of an achievement, really.
At least in the DoA universe Carol has a lot more competition for worst parent.
…is Machete from the canon future?
Like, he definitely exists in the main timeline, as seen both at Mike and Amber’s wedding in Shortpacked! and in the bonus epilogue from Roomies! Book 2, but is this timeline’s version of Bobby Walkerton actually the same one as the Machete we see here, or a different one?
I don’t think it’s 100% clear because of the sheer number of universes in play, but alternate DJ introduces himself by saying they reverse-engineered the process that stranded Machete in the past (which is presumably what all other future kids did.) My guess is that the small percentage of misfires per Brock Doc (which still produces a ton of other future kids, but infinite timelines) are all from the reverse-engineered version, not Machete’s initial tripping into time portal (per a few comics before this.)

So, in short: Machete is an idiot in multiple universes, but I think Machetes (or their equivalent if Joyce and Walky don’t get together) always go back in time in their own timeline. Alternate future kids hit the wrong universe by accodent because there are infinite possibilities, but per Brock Doc, MOST iterations of most kids sent back get to the right timeline. However, odds are at least decent that timeline’s buried in other future kids, who may or may not be from that timeline themselves. (Though I suppose it’s possible there’s a cluster of universes where only one kid does reach that particular universe and it’s the one they were aiming for.) They are therefore all considered alternate future kids to be on the safe side, and with the semi-malleable way we’ve seen the future it’s possible that you could even get several kids who work alone sent back to their specific timeline and ending up in the same spot because they’re all, potentially, the one who goes on the mission. Or something. Time travel is complicated.
Also as an aside, given Walkyverse Mike was apparently killed by the Soggies and that’s why the funeral in Something Positive, do you think Donna wanted to go back and see her dad again the same way Alternate DJ wanted to see Sal?

I don’t know about the dead walkyverse Mike thing
Wait, there’s a Mike funeral in Something Positive? :-O
As I recall, that page was an easter egg that ran a bit after Mike’s fall (I’m not currently reading S*P) – it may or may not have been before that April Fool’s strip, don’t remember. (Either way I definitely think that strip was meant to be set sometime last year and didn’t anticipate The Pandemic That Never Ends.)
Wait, isn’t Paige Walters blonde? (Or would that just make her look even more like a clone of Dorothy in this one?)
She was in prior appearances, so I’m guessing Willis probably just decided to tweak her design a bit so she’d look less like Dorothy.
