Fetching in short hair
on October 1, 2018 at 12:01 amI swear on my alive parents’ graves that this strip was strictly about Jason freaking out because it was specifically Walky, who we have deeply established he is generally uncool with, and not because of… *gestures* larger, transphobic-y issues. not to say that i would have been beyond such ugliness at the time but
If you take any comic strip ever written and replace its last panel with the last panel of this one, it will improve it.
Garfield Minus Garfield Plus Fish-Jason

It works.

You are now my favorite person.
“Well, this darkens my coat!”
I think someone turned on the Infinite Improbability Drive.
Jason would certainly understand that reference.
At least he’s not a pot of petunias. Or a humpback whale.
I now feel that Walkly in the Dumbingverse should have drawn something like panels 3 and 4 here, with speech bubble, instead of the one with the dinosaur eating Jason.
O NO MY GENTLEMAN SAUSAGE”
my guy has been fond of saying “noble tuber” (though not in that context, it just sounds like it could be hilarity)
If it even remotely resembles a potato, he should probably go see a doctor.
I was hoping for genderbent Jason tbh.
Don’t judge me.
Hey, he never specified the fish’s gender.
Next, a week of Jason swimming upstream to spawn.
Well, it worked. Most fish don’t have external genitalia.
Interesting. learly, Jason’s distaste for Walky is so well set up, it never for a moment occurred to me that there was another possible (horrible) interpretation.
Until you made mention of it, Walky, I never even questioned that it was a joke about Jason realizing it was Walky.
Yeah, like it doesn’t make sense to parse him as being horrifyingly turned off by a Sal look-alike except if that look-alike is specifically Walky
I don’t think we’ve ever actually seen Sal with short hair in this universe or in DoA.
Jason’s not wrong, though.
And I thought that one episode of Ed Edd n Eddy was weird they broke reality.
Life has many doors, Walkerton!
Issues of transphobia aside, “bloody hell, I’m a fish!” is my favourite punchline in It’s Walky.
Something tells me that Willis was on a Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy trip when he wrote this strip!
The transphobic issues of this strip never occured to me because my brain just went oh Jason realised it was Walky and is annoyed with him as always, standard operating procedure with these two I see
Do your parents know you’re swearing on their graves?
Frankly even if it wasn’t Walky I’m pretty sure that stunned turnaround would be my reaction to complimenting a girl only to realize it was the wrong girl. I’d be praying to turn into a fish, or maybe just be granted a swift death.
Is it too late to make a “Bloody Hell I’m a Fish” T-Shirt?
It’s never too late.
Although, if the panel were to be redrawn for a T-shirt, the fish would probably end up looking more Jason-y.
I’m slightly skeptical of your caption, Willis, but I trust you. I mean, your growth from that view point is why I’m here, to the point I’d LOOK at your own work. And it was your later stuff that helped me come out. I hope you’re right about it, but I do see the strides you’ve made to be better at stuff like that. Does that make sense?
I mean, I’d be more inclined to take it as homophobic than transphobic, though admittedly the two are frequently related.
