Family troubles?
on January 2, 2013 at 12:01 amTitanic was a pretty big phenomenon. It was one of those movies where the weekly box office take went up as time advanced, instead of diminished returns. It was crazy. Personally, what I took away from it is that stories can make people cry, and I totes wanted in on that. It sounded like something fun to do. Incidentally, my first doodles of Ruth took shape around this time.
Joyce is eating in Joe and Danny’s dining hall. No wonder my brain eventually forgot she lived elsewhere.
Y’know, it’s weird. The biggest impact on my childhood writing was Bambi and somehow I ended up going into comedy.
So you saw tears and decided you wanted to make some of your own? Are you evil?
Have you met me?
I’ve only read your work and I could tell that.
Not yet. Hopefully some day.
Never seen titanic. But I bet I can tell you the ending. They all get to their destination safely and without issue, right?
In the animated versions? Yes.
And yes, there are animated versions. One of which has a rapping dog. And it’s arguably the better one. You may weep now.
Naw, I watch Nostalgia Critic. I’ve already cried my tears.
The fact that they decided to give the movies such happy endings makes me go “Really? No one who produced these ever did an ounce of research, did they? THIS WAS AN ACTUAL THING THAT HAPPENED” in between the sobs of disbelief and horror.
Also Cute. Joyce Followed them to their dining hall!
‘Titanic’ made me cry too. A magnificent leading lady, with such gorgeous lines and curves; such grace, beauty, elegance and dignity. The suffering inflicted upon her was too tragic not to openly weep.
Kate Winslet was alright too, I suppose.
So, even at this early stage, you thought that tears made for good eating?
Never seem it still.
*seen
I AM SLEEPY.
My family laughed when we saw it. Not for the boat or the jokes, but for Chippewa Falls. That’s Grandpa’s home town, well Bloomer was, but close enough
Except the lake Leonardo claims he swam in? Totally didn’t exist in 1912 (it’s man made).
That’s all I know about the film.
But I spent 10 years living in Eau Claire, WI (just 10 minutes south of Chip Falls).
The Titanic with the rapping dog is better.
Boy, you sure are lucky that Titanic is still well-remembered today, or else this series of strips would be completely dated. I think there’s a strip that talks about some oscar-baity movie at the time that IS dated.
I mean, maybe not so much “lucky” considering Titanic was essentially the megahit to end all megahits at the time, but still. If you were writing a comic taking place in 1997 today, it would cover a lot of the same topics that Roomies! did (if not in the exact same way).
