To most of you, I’m sure this is a pretty fine comic. Ā To me, though, I’m just staring at that serifed “I” at the beginning of the word “if” in that last panel, and my blood pressure is rising and NO NO NO THAT IS NOT HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE STUPID STUPID STUPID SERIFED “I”S ARE ONLY FOR THE PRONOUN
Joyce has offically become Matoi from SZS.
Matoi is so nice and calm when she’s with her beloved. I wouldn’t mind a stalker if she was as well-behaved as Matoi.
Considering how old this webcomic is, Matoi was likely based on Joyce. š
DAMN YOU WILLIS NOW I SEE IT TOO DX
Bless you, kind woman. I, myself, have been stricken with a severe case of apathy.
A case of whogivesafuck
Maybe you should head to the pharmacy and pick up some Fukitol.
I’m betting this isn’t the first woman Danny has driven to loving pussy.
*RIMSHOT*
*Rimj-*… I’ll stop.
…38…
Mind if I ask what you’re counting down to specifically?
The redux strips.
Thanks for the response.
Or to be more specific, the first of the strips which begins Danny’s Dark Descent followed by Willis ACTUALLY portraying Danny as an asshole. Or at least, you know, self centered.
…strips until lesbians?
Yes.. Only one of my responses is true.
See, this is one of those times where you don’t notice something or care about it until someone has to be that guy and point it out to you.
Dammit, Willis.
I had actually noticed recently that you only used the serifed ‘I’ for the pronoun. Was doing, or thinking about doing, an edit, I think, and noticed that only some of the ‘I’s were serifed, and closer examination revealed the pattern.
I had not previously noticed that you misused it here, though, and still can’t bring myself to care.
I’m beginning to think you are sometimes a little hard on yourself, Willis.
Iām beginning to think you are sometimes a little hard-on yourself, Willis.
Dangit, now someone needs to photoshop that image of Karkat imagining Jade and Jadesprite making out to have Present Willis and Past Willis in it…
Huh. I myself would have either serified all the “I”s or none of the at all. At least you have a rule you follow, Willis.
It’s not just my rule. It’s a Rule. It’s the only reason comic lettering fonts have both kinds of upper case Is.
I had no idea that was a Rule.
WHY DID NO ONE EVER TELL ME THIS.
I’ve been breakin’ the rules!!!
I just can’t agree with this Rule! I guess it is a good thing I don’t make comics then š
I had no idea this was a rule. I tend to just write all my “I”s serified, so that they’re easier to tell apart from lowercase “l”s.
Gee, I would have assumed the rule regarding two different “I”s in an otherwise ALL CAPS font would be to distinguish between the capital I, which would go for the pronoun and the beginning of a sentence and the lowercase i…
You are weird, Sir.
However, you draw great comics and develop great characters, so I guess you are entitled.
Huh, I thought you were also supposed to serif the I if it was the first letter in a sentence.
I’VE BEEN DOING IT WRONG!
That’s what I thought too!
I thought you were only supposed to do it if you actually cared! Boy was I wrong!
(Still don’t care though.)
I’m gonna have to remember this. I’ll probably ignore it, but it seems good to remember.
I now can’t believe I’ve never noticed before that putting serifs on I when it’s a pronoun is a thing. I doubt it would ever bug me as much as incorrect use of “its” versus “it’s” does though.
Also Joyce’s logic seems airtight.
If we’re being pedantic, surely those are crossbars rather than serifs…
It’s not like this is without precedent. She’s rethought her entire personality before.
=_= dammit Joyce, if an active feminist saw you, you would be decapitated. Hell, I’m sharpening the guillotine as we speak. Look, as I walk up to your door with a battleaxe and a butcher’s knife all I can say is that I am not responsible for my actions. While I tear down your door with a claymore and a scythe, I just can’t be sure what I’m going to do when I see you.
The ‘Comic Lettering Font Rule’ notwithstanding, I can’t say that this is a “pretty fine comic” š
