Did you wash your face?

Characters: Linda Walkerton, Sal Walters
Location: The Walkertons' Texas home
Oh, moms. It’s like they have eyes on the backs of their heads. Or they’re ex-intelligence and have cameras everywhere, I dunno.
I decided to give Linda Walkerton glasses because I was afraid she didn’t look old enough. They didn’t last.
Gendomom being a better parent to Sal than her DoA counterpart makes me laugh.
Well, at this very moment, at least.
It’s… honestly impressive, yeah, that THIS one comes out better in the comparison. Sure, she willingly abandoned one child, kidnapped another, and contributed to if not directly caused the deaths of two innocent people, but at least she’s actually got reasons for it that make it understandable if not justifiable.
(I mean, it’s possible Aliens would’ve gone after Beef anyway, and that could’ve caused the Walters’ deaths, but it wouldn’t be the given it was with Sal.)
Not to mention wiping out the Martians?
She was framed for that, remember?
Oh, she did wipe them out. It’s just .
Keep forgetting it eats that. (Spoilers), rather.
Gendomom. I love it.
Get in the giant robot monkey, Sal.
Wrong robot. Wrong kid.
But hey, one out of three ain’t bad.
How on any Earth does DOA!Linda add up to being a worse mother than she is in IW??
Racism which leads her to ignore Sal in favor of Walky since she is darker than him.
Or so claims Sal. Most people seem convinced she is right, but that part was so brief and intense, and I still have my doubts whether Sal is right or is trying to rationalize why her parents never gave her much attention.
Not literally darker. Looks (and acts) “blacker”.
Okay, I’ve said this too many times over in the DoA comments, but I guess I have to repeat it again over here:
Sal and Walky have literally identical skin colors. However, there is a lot more to the complex of issues that makes up the concept of “race” in our society than merely skin color.
Hair texture is one of those things, and Sal’s naturally kinky hair is a “black” trait, while Walky’s straighter hair is not. (And that’s why when Charles tells Sal he thinks she’s pretty when she makes her hair look like a white girl’s, that’s not actually the compliment it might superficially appear to be, but actually racist as fuck.)
Simple identification by self and others is another part of it (probably the biggest part, really, because our society’s concept of race doesn’t actually correspond to anything biological), and we’ve seen Walky identify Sal as “black” and himself as “generically beige”.
When someone says that Sal is “blacker” than Walky, this is what it means. It doesn’t have anything necessarily to do with the color of their skin (which is, again, exactly the same). And so yes, Linda’s preferential treatment of Walky over Sal can be racially motivated even though the twins have the exact same skin color.
More on topic, notice how Linda’s treatment of Sal in the Dumbiverse mirrors her treatment of Beef in the Walkyverse? She’s a terrible mother, regardless of continuity.
DOA!Linda is an awful parent, no one’s questioning that.
But IW!Linda is undoubtedly worse. IW!Linda is an awful person who literally
(spoilers)
knowingly sends her own children to die, and yet still has the audacity to put on this strip’s “Sweetie!” act every time she sees them back at home…
Well we actually see her treat her children with some actual compassion, for starters.
Linda in IW! is an actual character. Linda in DoA is there to be the representation of the bullshit Sal has to put up with.
The above isn’t compassion. You can’t have real compassion for a child you abandoned specifically to be a target, ostensibly to keep another child alive…until it was the right time for him to die.
I’m not saying Linda doesn’t think she loves her kids, but she hasn’t got any right to put on this loving mom act for Sal when she’s the one who purposefully sent Sal away TO BE KILLED (which, Sal’s/Beef’s parents were!).
I didn’t remember she was planning Walky’s death. I did remember her using them as pawns in her plans and outright setting up Sal as bait though. I don’t think DoA!Linda can top that level of utter lack of ability to see her children as people or their lives as valuable beyond how they advance her plans. Hell, I’ve only seen a few Willis-moms who even come close, and there’s a serious argument she’s worse than Blaine or Toedad — although their behavior is a more realistic portrait of abuse which can be argued to give them the edge just because there’s parents who actually do that, the magnitude of IW!Linda’s abusiveness is far, far greater.
Faaaace
Uhg.
or maybe Sal’s face just really stinks
Oh, Gawd, Sal hanging upside down with that amazing hair is carbonating my hormones…
Yeah, but it’s not defying physics as it used to.
just like my mother in a nutshell
What was Sal jumping from in that first panel? Is her airship still hovering above the house during this scene?
Well she was a world class operative after all XD besides being a mom XD
She always looks like an older Joyce to me.
Linda Walkerton sounds a whole lot like Linda Hamilton, another badass, if not a bit cold, action mother kinda character (In Terminator 2, at least I don’t know anything about her personally).
Whoops…I thought this was going to be that time that she went to kidnap a certain old friend.
You mean the glasses aren’t playing out thumbnail videos of surveillance from around the house???
