…damn, it makes sense now. Knowing what eventually happens to one of them, it makes total sense that he’d act that way. Walky is mature than anyone can give him credit for, he’s doing what any rational person would do.
? Panel 3 is Walky’s vision of Joyce in an actual, inevitable future? Not his fear of what might be? “What eventually happens to one of them”?
I can recall two episodes: a big, full color scene from J&W’s wedding, from the front of the chapel, from the p.o.v. of an unwanted, threatening interloper, some guests cringing, the SEMMF-vets in fight mode (including Mike climbing over a pew to get to the front fastest).
The other is Joyce & Walky peacefully together, Joyce asks Walky if he ever wonders what their lives would have been like if they’d never met, then a series of scenes from their life together, then Walky says “I hope we [I?] never find out”.
Run away and never return.
Yikes
If this were a recent comic, panel 4 would be the Red Panel.
Panel 3. Stupid fingers.
Yes, I’m sure ignoring that vision of the future will prevent it from happening.
If tradition is any guide, paying attention to visions of the future doesn’t help either, so why not?
you have no chance to survive make your time
What you say!?

Walky clearly doesn’t know “Appointment In Samarra” or he’d know how pointless it is to try and run.
This makes Joyce’s beatific face in the last panel even more wrenching.

Does the 23rd explanation of the inverted panels answer my question (sort of)?
The explanation Willis/you posted with the comic posted on Wednesday the 23rd.
Just noticed that this is tagged as the “fragile hotel.” Nice.
