Hooper had to do a quick check to make sure no-ones nearby before practicing his zombie impression. it’ll be the best prank ever. no chances there are actual zombies there, right, right?
So if Hooper coming back to life was originally done as part of a post 9/11 attempt to add some hope to the story, does this strip’s turn represent a turn back toward cynicism thanks to the looming Iraq invasion?
I’m not going to lie, I’d read a “Hooper as a symbol of America in It’s Walky” essay. If only because setting up this random bit character based on one of Willis’ friends as a thematic core of the story sounds hilarious—

Sounds like the second verse of the poem.
So that’s how he survived being squished by Monkey Master. He was secretly a zombie all along!
Yeah, I completely forgot about these three characters.
Seems like normal Hoop to me.
Nah, you can tell it’s zombie Hoop because he’s speaking comprehensible sentences.
…shit that just hit home, I’m starting a “zombie Hooper is actually Anti-Hooper” conspiracy theory
Oh yeah, this was a odd unnoticed subplot.
I can’t say I ever caught it before. Is what’s going on with Hooper and why actually explained later?
Does anyone ever look at the camera and say SO THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED
No. Can you read between the lines based on other events that happen later and figure it out for yourself? Yes.
I’ll wait and see, but I do know that last time I didn’t.
The world is mine! Ha ha!
Look, you crazies!
Pooed all over my unconscious self
Ah hope you’re disgusted with yourself
It’s Monkey Master…
I can’t believe the confirmation of alien life and the vast conspiracy to cover it up is still being talked about.
