BLAM! BLAM! CLUNK!
on August 15, 2014 at 12:01 amChapter: Debriefing
Characters: Alan Rees, Anthony McHenry, David Walkerton, Derrick the Alien, Jason Chesterfield, Joyce Brown, Professor Doc, Stan the Alien
Location: Storage and Lockdown
Aw, g’bye, Derrick and Stan. You were… indistinguishable.
Wait, did someone shoot Dorothy in the head? Does that happen often?
Dorothy? Do you mean Joyce?
Couldn’t handle the power of the canon she had.
It’s a running joke, she chose this BFG, but can’t even remotely handle the kickback.
She handles it fine. It just… kicks her back.
That’s to be expected.
If the act of firing your gun throws you across the room, you are not able to handle the kickback.
The shot goes where she intends it, so…
Considering how often that kickback ends up saving her life throughout the series I think she is able to handle it very well. Just kind of unconventional.
But Joyce likes it. It’s pink!!
And it’s got pretty bows on it!!
Gee, Alan, you seem a bit disturbed.
Gee, I wonder why…
…He is holding a severed head.
There’s more to it than that *wink wink*
I know….. But he’s holding a severed head.
Wait… why dont they use conventional weapons more?
More advanced weapons means more stripped-down fight scenes.
I like the fight seens, frankly I think we needed more Joyce vs Sal was one of my favorite moments.
Poor Alan. Giving a little bit of foreshadowing there with your squick.
I love how much he’s able to emote despite the incredibly limited number of controls in the suit. He’s got, what, two handles and a couple of peddles? Even assuming there’s shit we’re not seeing there’s still the fact that Alan has to put effort into emoting this way.
Maybe the pedals and handles just control the limbs? Otherwise there’d have to be some serious effort in talking, much less emoting. But even then, unless his face is somehow synced to his actual face, it’d take effort. (If it is, that raises a lot of questions about why the suit uses handles and pedals when it apparently has some sort of motion capture thing going on.)
What you never see is the second dude working just the face.
I always just presumed it worked as a combination of mental link and manual controls, like all the rest of the alien tech, and that the combo of proximity and relative simplicity/scale or some sort of enhancement tech was at play allowing the mental link to work for that specific unit but not the remainder of their tech.
oh wait, they’re telekinetic toward machines

so maybe the levers are just handrails? idk
Shh no I like the second dude theory.
It not going to hurt anyone to learn to use nunchucks or a freaking sword…except the people they’ll be using them on.
My experience is that people trying to learn to use nunchaku typically hurt themselves a lot more than they ever do anyone else.
Though to be fair I suspect actually fighting with nunchaku involves a lot more holding one end and flailing the crap out of people with the other end and a lot less flipping them around and passing them behind your back and hitting yourself in the nuts than most wannabee ninja do.
I guess bulletproof environmental suits are not standard alien ware then.
If it is, it doesn’t help at all.
Given the aliens in question? It’s entirely possible they are… except they got “bullets” and “ducks” confused during the design phase.
That is a looootta alien blood.
Nope Joyce not shot, recoil of her giant gun slammed her into the wall. Can’t remember why she has it, but she wants it.
Alien brains…wait do the minions have brains?
Professor Doc barely gives a damn that he’s covered in alien guts.
Jason’s holding the smoking gun in his left hand? I’ve seen him fire it competently with his right, as well… is he ambidextrous, perhaps?
I didn’t really care to depict handedness in the Walkyverse. Characters just held things in hands that worked best for the composition of the shot.
I like that. I wish that applied to real-life. “I didn’t know you’re left-handed!” “Well, only when it improves composition.”
So they use whichever hand was, err, handy at the time!
That’s gonna be my answer from now on |=p “It looks better if I’m left-handed.”
I choose to assume that Jason is simply showing off his amazing bad-ass-ness by shooting left-handed. Or possibly in the hopes that someone will ask about it so he can quote the Princess Bride.
Panel 3 is the best Professor Doc expression ever. 😐
So I’m a little confused. Who’s the CLUNK “Owwie!” for/from? Did Walky clobber someone? Was it a delayed reaction from Joyce’s firing of the BFG? I’m guessing the latter, but my mind doesn’t want to process it as such because that happened “yesterday”.
I imagine the three panels prior to CLUNK/Owwie! happened nigh-simultaneously
The kickback from the cannon Joyce uses blasted her backwards into the wall. There was a slight delay.
This is right on in my book. You can see the skid mark where she slid along the floor from the blast… lucky she’s wearing something durable, otherwise she’d be giving Walky, and the other guys in the room, quite a show.
So, is that a skid mark, or a skid mark?
Oh my god, Joyce killed something!
Lot of foreshadowing in the last two panels.
I feel kinda sorry for the minion Aliens…
