Better off
on November 29, 2012 at 12:01 amThis was a sixth page of new content for Roomies! #2. I hate the art in it. I don’t think I even liked its art at the time. Mary’s ears are godawful.
Years later, after introducing Mary as Sal’s best friend in high school, I wanted to plug the plotgap that was her reaction to Sal’s sudden disappearance, so here it is.
Mary’s tag on this strip is also the first appearance of her maiden last name. Roomies! would later give her a married last name, but she’d never had her own last name, so I asked Twitter for possibilities as I put this update together. I settled on Bradford, though Bradshaw was a close second.
I woulda gone with “Quitecontrary” myself, but I’m known for horrible names 😉
Considering some of the really punny names Willis has used in the past, I’m a little shocked he didn’t go with that.
She’s a mime!
KILL HER.
Now now, a mime is a terrible thing to waste.
We’re men, menly men, men in tiiiights
LEARN THE WORDS
Sad you didn’t go with Brad DeGroot.
Finally! It’s about time we had Sal and windows together.
Mary and Sal were friends?! I remember less than I thought about the early stuff.
It’s been a LOOOOONG time since I read through the SEMME saga, so I forget how things went for Mary. I hope she proved more adept in anti-alien tactics than a certain other alien-fighting Bradford…
So THIS is what the March 2 2003 strip of It’s Walky! is referring to!
was her Father’s name Terry? HA!
Mary’s head looks a bit like a puzzle piece with a wig.
The ears aren’t even as bad as the fact that in panel 4, Mary, who is clearly hallucinating, has attached an antenna to an L-pipe and is talking into it.
