There is this (originally American) ’60’s concept of the “pony car”, being an affordable, compact, highly styled coupé or convertible with a “sporty” or performance-oriented image, aimed at younger buyers. Think Ford Mustang, Didge Challenger.
Having said that, I don’t think that is what Billie is referring to.
I tried to write something funny about the patriarchal assumptions that one must forgo ponies to succeed in politics but it wasn’t funny so I deleted it and wrote this instead.
Baby carriers get left on the ground a lot. Trust me. I mean, not anywhere dangerous. But, like, they’re heavy and there’s not like a dedicated “set baby carrier on this” piece of furniture in all rooms everywhere.
I’m new to this arc, so: There is palpable relief to Danny not thinking, a la Billy Bigelow, “You can have fun with a son but you’ve got to be a father to a girl.”
One, it’s quite out of date (given the original setting, pretty obviously), and two, remember what happened to Billy Bigelow.
Billie has revealed her own misguided gender biases here. Liking horses is far from a detriment to becoming president.
Reagan, the Bushes, Teddy Roosevelt…and those are just the ones off the top of my head. American presidents have a long history of keeping, raising, and riding horses.
Ponies are far from infantile, they tend to have all of the mischief of full size horses concentrated into half the mass, which is why horsewomen are among the strongest, toughest and most self-reliant people I know.
Yeah, what’s wrong with ponies?!
some of them purr really nicely going down the highway
okay, really, is this a regional thing or what, because i have never heard anyone refer to cars as “ponies”
Well, there’s (Ford) Mustangs. And every car has at least some horsepower. 😀

Two wheels good, too.
Two wheels good, four wheels better — USA since the Model T

I’m tired now. **yawn** Goodnight.
ponitics
What year was this originally published? I know the Walky verse progresses real time and I’m wondering how old DJ would be today
I wanna say 2006-ish?
2007, so DJ’d be like 13.
I hope D.J. ends up liking ponies despite what her parents want.
Well, she technically (theoretically?) has Joyce for an aunt, so… maybe?
Why have they just left D.J…. on the floor? It seems weird.
There’s no other furniture in the endless void room.

I feel like the stereotype is “ponies are baby horses” and therefore the infantile hobby of the two
Like horses are for grown-ups or some such
idk DJ should write her (or his/their?) OWN path

Ponies are awesome! Although I can’t argue with Billie wanting DJ to break gender stereotypes
girls can like awesome stuff too!
I think the point here is that girl stuff is *already* awesome
