30 seconds, right on cue
on December 13, 2021 at 1:01 amChapter: Same Planet, Different Dementia
Characters: Amber O'Malley, Dina Sarazu, Ethan Siegel, Honey Bun, Joe Rosenthal, Joyce Brown, Mike Warner, Rachel Jackson, Robin DeSanto, Ultra Car
Location: Rosenthal Industries, Shortpacked!
Threesomes never solved anything! Foursomes, however…
Dina’s “What?” in the last panel gets me every time. It truly is the gift that keeps on giving.
Man, I remember when that spread just about everywhere in our little fandom. It got edited into so much.
DOA is great and all but it can’t beat the meme game of shortpacked.
It can’t beat the meme game of Shortpacked! in the FAAAACE.
It never gets old.
This arc is new to me and I feel like I’ve missed so much not knowing about this meme.
You did such a perfect use
I mean, Leslie’s right there…
With Amber and Joe being step-siblings in DoA, it makes their placements in the last two panels all the more fitting.
Unless I’m mistaken, this specific page is the last appearance of Ultra Car in this body, so I’m choosing to believe that “can you build me a new girl body” was the very first thing she asked Rachel after this.
Polyamory is an option!
I should be making poly/foursome jokes…
But I just can’t get over how unpleasant Rachel keeps on being. That sneer at Robin. The overt disgust. Like, fuck you Rachel. Robin is the best, and you’d be lucky to have a threeway with her.
I’m very glad she got relegated to a minor character in DOA because she is just consistently the worst.
Her scenes with Ultra Car later on are really nice, though.
Um… not being into threesomes is a perfectly valid point of view? And being propositioned for one two minutes after you’ve reunited with your sweetie is probably grosser than usual (if you’re not into them). I mean, would you call Becky unpleasant for not wanting to sleep with Joe? I’m pretty sure she’d register overt disgust at the idea.
And even positing that Robin is indeed the best (tastes differ), how the hell would Rachel know that?
I was talking about panel 2, thanks.
I feel like Rachel isn’t the jerk you’re making her out to be. While I like this universe’s Robin, I can see how other characters might have trouble getting along with her wacky antics sometimes, and of course Rachel’s been stuck in another universe for years so she doesn’t know how Robin (and other characters as well) has grown as a person since the last time she saw her. And it’s not a bad thing to not be into threesomes.
Similar to my view of Robin, I prefer Rachel in this universe over DoA Rachel.
Rachel and Robin’s interactions in It’s Walky were pretty friendly. Thus I don’t think that her face in panel 2 is called for.
The last time Rachel saw Robin she was a weirdo who was pelting rocks at her
You can tell Joe has had Character Development because Robin was able to suggest it first.
And he had the fortitude not to even joke about it.
Go four it!
…augh i just noticed that nasty 180 degree line violation from panel three to four and now i can’t unsee it
What violation? Joe stepped foward, and the two women are still where they were in relation to him (Rachel to his left, Robin to his right).
The 180 degree rule isn’t about characters literally swapping places in space, it’s about the camera (or “camera”) moving in such a way that it seems like they have to the audience. Rachel and Robin are still in the same place in relation to each other, but now occupy different sides of the frame without a smooth transition.
It’s more 90 degree rule than 180
It’s at least 135.
Panel 6 is my new favorite.
I do like Panel 5 Robin’s expression. Not “I desperately want a threesome” like Panel 6 Ethan. Just “So, um, would that work?” Fits well with her smile in Panel 4. Has she ever had that sweet an expression elsewhere?
How long before someone explains to Rachel? Robin’s answer to Rachel’s “it was to someone’s mom” is correct, but almost raises more questions than it answers (if I’m reading who is from what universe properly).
Everyone in that conversation is from the same universe. And the explanation isn’t complicated. He married Amber, who is the mother of his child.
They are all in the same universe? Ah, thanks.
I love the last two panels of this comic.
While Rachel might be right that threesomes never solved anything, polyamory would solve a lot of love triangles in fiction. And if you are dipping your toe into that might as well have fun with it and cannon ball into the deep end.
Wait, how is Dina in the store? Is that actually Joe’s imagination?
The last panel is in the alternate universe Robin and Leslie just returned from, in which Dina was still alive.
