Well, fuck.
on November 19, 2020 at 1:01 amI continued to self-censor my curse words in Joyce & Walky!, following (most of) It’s Walky!’s lead, but I allowed myself in Shortpacked! to write swears as I chose. So, yeah, have a “fuck.” If this were truly a J&W! page, I’d have scribbled over the word.
Chekhov’s Toys & Games comes into play! Before Amazi-Girl was rebooted in Dumbing of Age, the corn popper weapon was apparently incredibly crucial! Amber literally needed it to be Amazi-Girl. Just the mask, cape, and “A” scrawled on the shirt wouldn’t have done it, apparently. Amazi-Girl’s colors here are opposite how she previously presented, with a light blue bodysuit and a yellow mask. I thought it would have been too on-the-nose for Amber to be wearing Amazi-Girl’s usual colors going into this storyline, figuring that as long as she had some arrangement of them she still read as Amazi-Girl once she put on the mask and cape…. however, this look became Dumbing of Age Amazi-Girl’s actual colors. I can’t recall if I simply misremembered them when I redesigned her for DoA or if I just liked the colors enough in this story to choose them on purpose.
I figured it was an intentional rebranding to disambiguate SP!Amazi-Girl from DOA!Amazi-Girl
I remember this being explicitly stated somewhere but I lack the energy to comb through ten-year-old social media posts to find it.
“Like hell.”
[disappears into toy store for ten minutes of shopping. Mike remains behind, dripping.]
Hell’s pretty patient, I guess
Super fights automatically go on hold when a newly arrived hero needs to suit up. All proper villains and monsters know the rules.
So was there a cashier to calmly process the transaction while a giant monster was rampaging just outside, or did she do that “the store’s abandoned because there’s a crisis but I’m going to just leave some money on the counter” thing?
You still gotta respect a superhero who’s that dedicated to their visual brand. She even took the time to find a sharpie to write that A.
I always liked the Yellow suit Blue A variation anyways for Amazi Girl. So I was glad to see it carried over to DoD Amazigirl. Though still think the corn popper should xameo once in DoA even if just for a one shot gag
The Corn Popper needs its own tag.
Yeah, clicking through the link to remind myself of the original look the blue on blue with only the A and mask in yellow looks really bland in comparison, having the cape, boots, and gloves in a fully different color instead of just another shade makes such a big difference.
I think Mike may have most of the best lines in these action strips of this storyline. “My girlfriend is a fruit loop” is one of my favorites.
Yeah, makes you feel like the old team is back together again, doesn’t it Mike? Seriously, yeah, her upbringing has left her with… issues… but you’re hardly Mr Mental Stability, are you?
And so she is born. Comic relief in one universe, spilt personality in another
This isn’t Amazi-Girl’s first appearance in the Walkyverse (Willis linked that above), simply the first in these reruns – which are not including the vast majority of Shortpacked! storylines, even though they’re also set in the Walkyverse.
Oop, my b
There were a couple strips in July 2010 that had Amazi-Girl in what was pretty much exactly her DoA outfit, then never again. Given how close this was to DoA beginning, I’m guessing you either forgot the colors when redesigning her for DoA, or you forgot that the DoA colors weren’t the same as the Shortpacked ones.
The DoA colors are a lot better.
