The W-word

Characters: Amber O'Malley, D.J. Wilcox, Danny Wilcox, Emilie, Jennifer Billingsworth, Joyce Brown, Mike Warner, Robin DeSanto, Stephen Wilcox, Ultra Car
Location: Denver, Colorado, Joyce and Walky's apartment
It’s Danny and Billie’s second child! This one’s named Stephen, after the late Beef Walkerton. Billie’s like “hey can we name this kid after my high school boyfriend, it’s okay because he’s dead now ‘cuz he’s a traitor” and Danny went along with it because going along with it is what he does.
Also, hey, Robin. Looks like we’re about to round up some guest stars.
What is this, a crossover episode?
I don’t think in eleven years “Billie and Beef dated” has ever, like, registered with me. I figured logically they’d grown up together because Walky but didn’t know it went any deeper than that.
This is not me saying it never came up in the comic, just that if it did, it’s the rare minute fact of this universe that I never memorized.
I believe it comes up a grand total of once, and I distinctly remember being confused when Willis brought it up in the commentaries during the final battle, so… yeah.
I believe this is the closest thing we get in-text, and even then it’s a little vague.
Okay, I didn’t pick up on that meaning Billie and Beef dated.
“Named a kid after the ex who committed treason and didn’t name one after the ex who died saving her husband’s life” pretty much sums up Billie’s sense of judgement.
But see, if she named their first child after Ruth, then she couldn’t name her after the alt-universe child of Danny’s with HIS ex who will now never come to be!
Which, when I say it like this, does come off as a bit spiteful and is therefore pretty damn Billie.
Panel 2 Billie’s eyes are like… super creepy to me for some reason.
Here comes Walkyverse Robin! Good ol’ Walkyverse Robin, yes sir…
…i was gonna complete the joke but honestly i can’t even pretend to hate walkyverse robin for a second
She’s terrible! She’s wonderful! She’s Robin!
I mean she’s better than a certain other Robin DeSanto I could name…
Walkyverse Robin is so much better than the Dumbiverse version of her.
Honestly, I always have a hard time remembering why Billie and Danny are even invited to this thing.
Though not as much as figuring out why the hell they show up at Mike and Amber’s wedding, except that Willis wanted to draw a full-cast-with-offspring picture.
Billie and Walky are childhood best friends! Like brother and sister! This relationship doesn’t get a ton of play in the Walkyverse but there’s at least two major story arcs built on it.
Yeah, I eventually remember that. But it still doesn’t explain the Mike wedding.
Beef gave Billie the Beef!
I think I remember a few comments in-universe about the Walkerton-Brown marriage, but I don’t really know around what “date” it’s supposed to take place.
Oooh, Guest stars! How long until we see Don Knotts and the Harlem Globetrotters? Possibly at the same time?
I just checked the tags. This is gonna get even more interesting real soon.
Okay, I’ll bite:
Where are Amber and Ultra Car in this strip?
I could see -maybe- one of those vague lines in the last strip –maybe– being Ultra Car. But Amber?
Robin et al are inside Ultra Car. Her interior makes up the background of the panel. Mike is to Robin’s right (the left edge of the panel) in the passenger seat, and Amber is the figure behind him. (Additionally, I’m pretty sure Leslie is behind Robin, although she isn’t tagged.)
Okay, I got the positions of the passengers wrong, judging by the next comic.
Good thing for those super powers…
Why does who they’re holding mean they can’t find Walky? Is it because he wouldn’t like a kid named after Beef? Or is it just that they have two little kids so they can’t do a whole lot of searching?
It’s actually Danny that Billie’s been carrying. For years now.
Did anybody else originally read the W-word as the N word? Turns out Ws are really easy to mistake for italicised Ns
