The media should be here soon
on February 1, 2017 at 12:01 amBack in 2002, I still identified as a Republican. And while I was slowly peeling myself away from that mindset during those years, I probably would have offered some sort of limp, noncommittal “It’s just an equal opposing viewpoint to that commie liberal bastion CNN!” in defense of Fox News. All I knew is that most of my online friends hated Fox News for reasons I had yet to comprehend, and I figured maybe taking a cheap potshot at it here would give me some insurance to do some liberal-directed joke later, who knows.

It feels like CNN really wasn’t that much better, tho, up until a certain illegitimate president forced their hand…
CNN is pretty biased and its story choices are…..questionable, at best, but generally they’re better at giving sources and fact checking (at least according to mediabiasfactcheck.com, it’s entirely possible I’m wrong).
I’d say to take CNN with a grain of salt, and keep in mind they like to sensationalize. But Fox News….I’d say to double check with other sources first. I’m told the National Review is a decent right wing news source, fact checking and sourcing wise, for folks determined to find something conservative.
Might have to check them out later… I’m pretty far left, but I’ve been looking for non-Fox ways to get the conservative perspective too. Thanks!
You can read the Wall Street Journal, there’s a conservative bend and it’s generally pretty fact based.
CNN and Fox News are junk food journalism. Both use sensationalist headlines that barely scrape the surface of the topics at hand, and personality-fueled interviews that devolve into shouting matches, to attract attention and ratings.
Most other media outlets do a better job at reporting. The BBC, AP, Reuters, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, NPR, PRI, C-SPAN, and the big three TV networks (in the US) all have good coverage in my opinion.
Don’t waste your time on news blogs, they all have an obvious bias and interject their opinions far too much. Some are basically digital supermarket tabloids, written with cherrypicked truth under sensational headlines to validate the reader’s (and let’s be honest, the writer’s) preconceived notions.
Speaking of supermarket tabloids, don’t even give The National Exaggerator the time of day. If your bird cage needs a new liner, buy your local paper instead. They need the money.
Opinions are not journalism. Good news outlets shouldn’t post things you agree with 100% of the time. Multiple outlets should independently report the same facts.
Here’s an easy mental shortcut: more adjectives in the headline means less worthwhile content in the article.
Forced their hand how?
I know he called them fake news, but how has that affected them?
I would assume they’d be on high alert and reporting as unbiased as possible.
maybe that’s an exaggeration, but https://twitter.com/yashar/status/824012413615951873 <– daaaaaaang
Old, old fascist tactic — this isn’t a claim intended to be believed or argued, but a justification for later actions. When you see a lie this breath-taking, don’t look at why they might believe it, but what it would justify.
This is saying “I’m going to disenfranchise millions of voters.” At best.
Screw off. Picture ID is mandatory for so many other things, and voting is one of the most important things, but doesn’t require one, which is absolutely ridiculous, as it makes committing voter fraud much, much easier.
I don’t think I’ve ever liked Fox News. My family didn’t have cable when I was a kid, and when I eventually saw Fox News in college I quickly realized it was conservative propaganda.
That strategy sounds very fair and balanced.
Ha! ISWYDT…
Wouldn’t associating a FOX-abhorring attitude with the consummate villainy of Head Alien actually be liberal-directed anyway?
I think the idea is that us liberal kids would be amused that even Head Alien doesn’t like FOX news; FOX news is just that universally icky.
Joyce or Walky by themselves would have been enough.
…..Dina, what’d you expect?
Did you ever get to make that liberal-directed joke?
I am also curious about this
As someone who went conservative to liberal pretty close to your same timeline it seems like, I want to say Fox wasn’t AS BAD back then.
Though I’m probably giving them and my younger self too much credit and they were just as terrible then as well. Oy!
