My faith’s for me.
on October 24, 2018 at 12:01 amIt’s a “fun” “quirk” of evangelicalism to label any religion that’s not the specific group of evangelicalism you’re from “paganism.” Though it’s usually kinda No to use that label on a Jewish dude. Robin, though, the Catholic, is fair game.
I wish more “Christians” were panel 2 Joyce exactly
also p much everybody
I’d definitely like it if the evangelical Christians in the US would be more like panel 2 Joyce.
There would be a lot less problems in the world if every single religious person was like panel 2 Joyce.
Except what she is saying runs directly counter to the definition of “Evangelical/Evangelicism”…
Everyone must be saved, even if it takes torture/murder of the nonmembers!
I P Freely.
It’sWalky Joyce and DoA Joyce seem to both have a opposing mix of ups and downs.
Then again I take that back DoA Seems to have learned this after paling around with Dorothy long enough.
I thought us Catholics were less “pagans” and more “Satanists”.
“There’s a difference?”
Sure – Pagans are nonbelievers while Satanists are Christians who rebel but still believe. Apostates.
And I’ve never heard Catholics referred to as Satanists, only as Pagans (presumably for believing in a distorted version of the Trinity that so many religions venerate).
Paganism is an actual religion. Christians have just been using it as a slur for so long, they forgot it existed.
In the strictest historical sense, “Paganism” refers to the classical multi-theistic religions of Greece and Rome. You know the names of their gods; Jupiter, Mars, Mercury… Zeus, Hera, Hermes, etc.
These are literally the traditional religion of the Romans who founded Christianity, after coopting the name and reputation of a famous and popular Jewish Rabbi (much as they stole and renamed the Greek gods previously). The “Pagans” they turned around and shit all over weren’t “Others”; they were their own friends, family, and neighbours who were slow-joiners to convert to the popular new cult they made up.
You know that you maybe have problems when people don’t understand it when you make ironically self-deprecating jokes.
As an actual pagan, I find the idea of someone using my faith to be dismissive and insulting to other forms of Christianity fairly insulting myself.
To modern Willis, I did enjoy your use of “‘fun’ ‘quirk'” to emphasize how fucked up that practice is.
So what are you supposed to call Jewish people? Potential Saved People Who Refuse to Go All the Way for Some Reason, or is it still Baby-Sacrificing Christ-Killers?
Ever since WW2 ended in Europe, and the German Concentration Camps were discovered/revealed publicly, “Baby-Sacrificing Christ Killers” has become less popular. Nowadays it is just “Christ-Killers” to avoid offending the group that turned out to be almost half of the victims of the Holocaust…
I feel like it takes a special kind of delusion to swallow the idea that Christ’s own people should take the blame for his death, when the people who FREELY ADMIT to torturing and murdering him are the direct descendants (biologically, spiritually, nationally, and geographically) are the same people feeding you the story that you should put the blame on his friends, family, students, and practitioners of the faith he was ACTUALLY preaching.
Remember, when you sit in church and listen to the lessons Jesus was teaching to his apostles, or the people at the Sermon on the Mount… those folks aren’t YOU, and don’t represent YOU. Those are Jews, being taught Jewish lessons by a Jewish rabbi.
YOU, dear Christian, are a follower of a religion started and maintained by the same people who drove in the nails. THOSE are “your people” in the story, and don’t you ever forget it!
