In some universes, I’m sure they were.

Dorothy winks at the readers even harder with her final line here.
Aaaaaand even though Dorothy didn’t get her Walky, I did give her the potential romantic consolation prize of, uh, the combined genetics of Walky and Joyce, a being which is SUPER INTO DOROTHY FOR SOME REASON. Read into that all you want.
“Damn it, Bobby, don’t ruin this for us”
Sometimes I think Walky never feels parental, just an uncle type
That’s because he’s an overgrown manchild himself. He’d want to be the cool uncle helping the kid escape his parents’ (perfectly reasonable) restrictions.
i mean they passed down all these other uninheritable traits, what’s one more on the pile
That’d be a deeply weird relationship, to say the least.
this was not meant to be a reply
Still works though.
Joyce SORT OF gets to do Dotty! hmm
Probably the closes thing you going to get to a Dorothy, Walky, and Joyce three way.
Great, now I’m reading Walky in the voice of Irwin from The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.
That’s okay, I’ve somehow started reading Machete in the voice of Gadget from Rescue Rangers.
It’s the buck teeth and the googles.
Oh, sure, make me imagine Walky’s lines above in Monterey Jack’s voice…
Like son, like father… and like mother, let’s not kid ourselves here.
And yeah, the concern that Head Alien will eventually re-emerge is definitely a good reason for her to go with Machete here. Up to now, I wasn’t really feeling any dramatic emotional stakes in this finale, and in some ways it seemed kind of a let-down. This page solves basically every lingering problem I had with this arc. The emotional resonance of invoking Joyce and Dorothy’s friendship in Dumbing of Age, the humor of Machete’s reaction in panel 4 (I laughed hard), Walky trying to be a parent to a kid he doesn’t know and Joyce knowing just what to say… it all feels right.
Whatever-the-opposite-of-damning-someone-is You, Willis.
Bless You Willis? It just feels wrong typing that.
Praise Willis?
Iä! Iä! Willis fhtagn?
Dab dab Willis dab?
Still a better final farewell than Vegeta.
I was going to say that a Vegeta farewell would have spared Walky all the awkwardness.
So in this scenario, Dorthy is Cyclops and Bobby is Maddie Pryor?
Or Dorothy is Jacob and Bobby is Renesmee
Thanks to the power of time travel this is significantly less skeevy
Wow, even the HA stuff I was talking about earlier was addressed? Okay then.
Not recanting all my earlier criticisms of this arc, but I’m glad it got a lot more closure than I thought (eventually).
And in the other universe where things were different Dorothy still didn’t get Walky. Well, she kinda did, she just didn’t keep him for long.
It’s not like the current state of that universe is necessarily the final state of said universe. Relationships in DoA come and go on a moment’s notice, and they both obviously still have feelings for each other. I’m still rooting for Dorothy x Walky, even if I might be in a shrinking minority as Lucy x Walky gains steam
Damn ok Machete go get you some, sometimes I ship the most odd yet Intriguing pairs.
Meeting his parents still went better for Machete than it went for Marty McFly
