At least abductees have super endurance, so the recoil won’t hurt um as bad as a regular person. Jason of course has his British stoicism to help him survive.
There are much more physics-defying solutions one could come up with. Think of this plan as scaled-down pulsed nuclear propulsion with Joyce as the pusher plate and shock absorber.
The only real problem is that if I’m correctly remembering how this scene goes Joyce only shoots once; if it took multiple shots to slow them down this would make perfect sense.
I gotta say, I really, really love the new version of this page. The layout and art (particularly the subtle character expressions) are really well done!
So, how is Jason still completely unharmed? He’s been blown up, set on fire and likely experienced a sudden decrease in velocity when Joyce turned on the jetpack! Joyce and Walky are super powered so it sorta makes sense for them but he’s not.
Oh wow. I really like this comic. The layout, the art, the way everything comes together. Even if it’s the same basic idea from nearly a decade and a half ago.
Oh, man, I only just noticed Walky’s expression in the last panel. While Joyce and Jason are arguing about whether or not they’re all about to die, Walky is totally thinking “OMG I’m touching a girl!”, isn’t he.
is that why you boooooooed “Jack Kirbi” then said you would steal it
Also, AWESOME ACTION LINES!!!!!!!1
[no, seriously, they look REALLY DAMN GOOD]
Whelp. This seems like it’s going to follow the laws of physics perfectly
It’s OK, I did this on Kerbal one and almost managed to land.
once.

Kick back and think of England?

Note Joyce’s “H-have faith.” Character-establishing moment?
Yeah, that line gave me DoA feels.
With the power of callback!
Joyce’s first threesome!
You’re not helping my Joyce/Jason shipping with comments like that.
Also, an almost obligatory: I’d read that Slipeshine!
Joyce! Letting a guy reach into your hammerspace on the first date??
(That lampshade looks good hanging there.)
Hey, at least you didn’t have her actually say, “You’re a genius!” I think that’s the worst part of that trope.
Which raises and interesting question actually.
Where does Joyce keep that gigantic weapon: her backpack/hoverpack takes up a lot of space back there.
Hammerspace.
We finally SEE the jetpack, though! [unless I was seriously not paying attention somewhere]
Jetpack actually collapses into her vest.
I guess the gun collapses into her shirt.
I always thought the jetpack was just super-duper flat, and was always hidden in the vest. Like a flat-screen TV versus one of the older, boxy ones.

wow, I’m actually really excited to read it’s walky! again now
good page
whoops, wrong email
looks like I’m joyce by default though?
Faith.
Panel 3: Walky has never been more eager to comply.
Whoops, forgot to put on my Me Face! Now I am Joe.
Appropriately enough!
His face is oh so cute in that panel!!
This is just as much fun as I hoped it would be. And believe me, I know from tortured wordplay, and that is no tortured wordplay.
tortured wordplay was a friend of mine?
Tortured wordplay was a bullfrog…
I was going more for a “Jack Kennedy” angle, but that works too!
Quick walky before she notices cop a feel.
Far rather tortured wordplay than Jason giving Joyce a eureka moment by trying to shoot himself in the head, frankly.
Haha. I am so amused that she acknowledged that her gun seems to be “somewhere”
I do love a good use of Hammer Space. Joyce is the queen of Hammer Space in this comic though.
She had lots of practice with that old calculator of hers.

The bowtie is the source of his durability.

Hammerspace?
Also, weren’t there 4 of them?
You get the TVTropes. Enjoy your journey.
