Sarah’s previous roommate
on March 1, 2013 at 12:01 amThere’s a weird story behind this one. Years after Roomies! ended, I “helped” an online friend by writing this strip so that he could then print it out and leave it hanging somewhere that his roommate could see. You know, as an amazingly passive-aggressive hint to his roommate at the time, who apparently liked to leave his own passive-aggressive notes. I’m always there for my buds.
It reads a little more oddly with Dumbing of Age in mind. No, Sarah didn’t sleep with Carl! In the Walkyverse, Sarah’s freshman year roommate wasn’t Dana, but someone completely different! Regardless, Sarah having roommate troubles seems to be a multiversal constant.
Guess Joyce is still an improvement.
Like Mike being an asshole, and Ethan being gay?
Yeah, with DoA Sarah, that would be a reaaaally bad idea.
Hm, I’d always presumed WV!Sarah was also a freshman.
Yeah, but now that you mention it she WAS the tour guide. That does suggest she wasn’t a freshman.
Point. Not sure why I presumed that…in fairness to me, most evidence she’s not is in extraneous material.
Eh, as you said. Most of the evidence otherwise isn’t in Roomies, and by the time she reappears in It’s Walky it’s been several years, so the timeline’s less clear.
I actually went and double-checked “Is a Song Forever”. She does appear, but she’s not graduating–someone invited her, I think? And she turned up? Despite not really liking the rest of the supporting cast? It’s not entirely clear.
Isn’t Sarah the oldest of the group?
Holy hell, how much bonus Roomies!-era material do you have?!
I’m so tempted to submit this, along with the back story, to Passive Aggressive Notes.
Sarah having roommate problems is a multiversal constant, just like Ethan’s gayness, Amber’s glasses, and Mike’s dickholeishness.
And Dina being the official Joyce Rebound Date (TM).
Then why was she still around in the third year?
Roomies! ends with most of the cast as juniors, so Sarah would be a senior in Y3.
Wait is ‘college’ in the US 4 years? I was just assuming it was 3 like in the UK.
No, it’s four, barring the occasional person with a ton of credits from high school programs and decides to graduate early (for instance, I’m only in my second year at school but am apparently considered a junior because I took a lot of advanced placement courses and passed the tests that allow those courses to count as college credits).
LAW? Must be a Judge Dredd album.
Sarah’s a bit of a weird character in Roomies!. Pretty one-note — sort of like Howard. She’s serious and sarcastic but also occassionally apathic (like her attitude to horoscopes). She’s just sort of there. It would have been interesting if she was developed more in Roomies! before she popped up again in It’s Walky — her appearance there is played for relevance, since Joyce knows her, but she really is little more than a stranger throughout Roomies.
Is this the origin of Joyce’s triangle smile?
Perfect conflict resolution, clearly.
