Power Booster Rod?
on March 26, 2014 at 12:01 amThe Power Booster Rod was named after an artifact from Transformers. At this point, the Power Booster Rod is just a gag which I didn’t expect to resurface later or become super important, so it didn’t bother me so much that I was borrowing the name. Also, hey, it’s not like Transformers is ever going to make a comeback or anything. Whoops!
“Didn’t you see her flying out? Man, you need to get some binoculars.”
Well, Past Willis, you have many things to regret. For one, “Crikey.”? Really?
Crikey? I know it’s probably just from the Crocodile Hunter, but I’ve always associated that more with Australia than England.
It’s pretty Australian, but slang has a way of getting around. We said “crikey” in the English Midlands where I grew up, but I’ve never heard it in the north.
I always associated “Crikey” with Penfold from Dangermouse. Also “Crumbs” and “Penfold? Yes, Chief? Shush. Yes, Chief.”
Around 50% of Aussie slang is British slang that went south with the colonists. The other 50% is what happens when heat starts getting into British people’s brains because we’re not used to it.
Crikey?
To be fair, the Power Booster Rod itself never made a comeback (did it?).
What?
I think Cephalo means in the Transformer series, not in It’s Walky! Or I might be wrong, because I know it does in It’s Walky!, but know absolutely nothing about Transformers. Haha.
Never came back in Transformers.
Oh, yes, I see. Thanks
Neither did the Mechanic. I imagine he’s still running around Earth Rod and Ratchet’s stolen medical equipment raising all sorts of havoc.
“Some girl tried to take our Power Booster Rod, but it was coated in Cosmic Rust. So she swiped the Matrix of Leadership, instead!”
“It’s a good thing she doesn’t know about the Allspark yet!”
You were writing this in 1999 weren’t you? Hadn’t Transformers made its Beast Wars comeback by then?
It wasn’t really quite the same. We never expected another toy named “Optimus Prime” or labeled with Autobot or Decepticon logos ever again. Certainly not in stores.
And they weren’t going to bring back the Marvel TFU, either. (Or I wish they hadn’t. Stupid Regeneration One.) Even the comics and shows that followed never even referenced the Power Booster Rod.
It really depends when in ’99 it was written. BW wasn’t really capturing that kind of attention until Optimal Situation cycled into rerun, which I remember a college friend forcing a fair sized group of us to watch in the early months of ’99 (all I remember for sure is that it was close to when Urza’s Legacy came out).
By my count, we’re roughly four months out from IW!, yay!
109 days, provided there’s no more newer material to fit into the early stuff.
Crikey! Blimey! GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!
So, wait, the PBR being a tree brance…
is there more to that joke than I thought?
You know, the alien does bring up a good question. Why didn’t they start their search on the ground around the … I think it’s a hotel.
