No harm done
on April 1, 2013 at 12:01 amHey, it’s Ruth! Ā Everyone should get super-attached to her. Ā April Fool’s!
So some time in the previous school year I decided to introduce this Ruth person, right? Ā And I didn’t have any redhead girl characters yet, and so she became a redhead, because diversity. Ā So here’s the thing. Ā Howard was also a redhead. Ā And I though, hey, maybe they’re related. Ā Because they’re both redheads. Ā Two unrelated redheads? Ā Unthinkable! Ā I think a lot of black people end up being related in stories in a similar way.
Looking back, I find it amusing that one of my most popular characters is actually the big sister of one of my earliest characters, especially since we don’t see Howard much or at all anymore. Ā (He exists in the Dumbiverse, but he hasn’t had the opportunity to pop up yet. Ā Mostly because I’m not terribly interested in him at all.)
It’s ambiguous the way she’s drawn, but I’m imagining Ruth giving him DOUBLE FISTS
The ol’ one-two really works better. Gotta be able to get your hips into it.
Perhaps she swung them both into his ears and popped his head like a balloon.
It’s good that Ruth’s first and last acts in this continuity were both awesome.
If Howard does ever show up in DOA, I think he should be Joe’s first boss… and totally treat him the way Ruth treated Billy. Why? KARMA, that’s why.
I think I’m in love. Again.
Man, in the context of my Joyce gravatar, my comment is pretty hilarious.
Joyce we need to talk…..I’m a lesbian.
All right, friends, it’s time to prepare ourselves for the nihilistic downward spiral.
Yay! I love happy endings!
It shall be a joyous ride down.
LET THE ANGST BEGIN!!!!!!!
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
JOE, YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE RUTH!
I saw what you did there.
nobody? really?
in the FAAAAAAAAAAACE!!!!!!
Way to take one for the team. And,of course, saving me from having to do it.
This Ruth character seems pretty cool, I hope she’s a redhead. š
Yay, Ruth “awesome” Lesse !
Long Live Ruth !
All these years and she still hasn’t changed. There’s the Ruth we all know and love/hate/feel ambivalently about.
“Iām not terribly interested in him at all.”
Ruth will pound you for that.
Using my knowledge from Dumbing of Age I deduce that this means that Ruth has the hots for Joe.
Ouch, David. Poor Howard, doomed to be forgotten because his own creator can think of a reason to do anything with him. So, he’s the Mega Man of Shortpacked?
It’s entirely possible that Mega Man has appeared in more games than Ruth has appeared in comic strips. Even including DoA.
Mega Man: Most prolific video game star of the most unplayed and/or unplayable games.
Dang, even more ouch. Unplayable though? They can be pretty difficult but maybe you mean something else? Poor mascot cant get any respect these days.
Ah-HA! This gives me further reason to suspect that the redheaded kid in the queue in the strip where we first can see Mike is Howard. He has Spock ears, as well! It must be him. Case closed. *crosses fingers*
That was not him.
The Willis has spoken.
Crap. Okay.
All these years and I never realized Howard and Ruth were Redheads…
I’m Happy Joe makes Howard miserable, but I’m happier that Ruth punched that jackass out.
RUTHLESSSSSSSSS. The True RA has appeared. 8U
